Like the title states , I am looking for ideas on vents for the sides of a hood on a 51 Chevy pickup my son and I are working on. I am filling holes and smoothing panels and an area on the rear sides of the hood look to be a good area to put a side vent. 1-2" tall and about 8-9" length. Looking for steel, aluminum, or whatever. Primarily looking for ideas. Functional is better, but not required. I may try to to fab something, but trying to get some ideas.

Thanks in advance, Chris

Check out marine bilge vents . I have used them on a couple of jeep hoods, installed with stainless hardware. Overtons is a good online source.

That may be closer to what I will use. Do you recall how deep it is? I may not have more than half to 3/4 of an inch of clearance behind the hood.
Thanks, Chris

Older buicks and Oldsmobiles ....around same age of the truck had some nice vents from the fenders and hoods

How about some old school hot rod louvers like were common in the 50s.

Steve, nah. The kid doesn't want louvers. I am just trying to find a cool way to eliminate an ugly spot on the side s of his hood. Thanks though.

50s era Buicks had port holes on the fenders, you could make them functional and they would look period correct on the car.....

Some plain and simple dimple die holes would be cool, too.

Well, after pulling my head out of a certain anatomical area I realized I cannot mount a vent in the area I want to because of the inner support. I had removed all the supports for cleaning. As I placed them loosely back in location I noticed the interference. I had not cut anything yet. But I have a working design but will move them forward. After I get them a little closer to finish stage I will post some pics .
Thanks for the help and ideas,
Chris
