So I decided to fit some 17x9.5 +38 ZR1 wheels I had kicking around on my Speedtech subframe. needless to say the make contact on the upper control arms. So my question is for anyone running 17" wheels what are your specs? Ive been told 17x9 with a 6.5" backspace will work but anything can work with some modification if a person wants it.

Is the R&P installed cause there are no steering stops.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but those wheels would have nearly 6.75" of back spacing at et 38.

Why not space them out a bit? It seems that most 1st Gens can tolerate 5" to 5.25" of front spacing with light fender liner mods. If you spaced them out 1.25" that would give you 5.5" of back spacing and 5" of front spacing.

Would 1.25" give you enough clearance with the control arms?

If you did that the wheel would stick out to far. On my Speedtech nonextreme frame i have 18x9.5 with 6.87BS with no interference lock to lock and its inside the fender. The 5.5 to 5.75 is stock subframe backspacing measurements. I think the most wheel you can get on this frame and stay inside the fender is 18x9.5 with 7in BS. I think Speedtech figured most would run a 18in wheel. JMO

I haven't yet installed the rack and pinion. I think I should do that before I get to upset

Very true. I hadn't thought of that before I posted. :-)

Those measurements I was talking about assume that the control arms are in the exact same locations as stock. That's completely out the window with an aftermarket sub since they can put the CA's inboard or outboard if they want.

Just to clarify. There are steering stops that are adjustable built into the lower control arm. the other thing that you may consider is getting the suspension at ride height this will change the relationship of the wheel to the control arm. and may help with the clearance issue. Someone commented that we probably designed it with 18" wheels in mind and that is some what the case but 17" will fit if the BS is correct.
