Went to look at an upcoming project today.63 Vette roadster. The car has been stripped to bare fiberglass and has sat inside for the last 6 years. What is the recommened procedure to start on this?Wash with soap and water then gelcoat?Kinda scared to use any kind of solvent on raw glass.

Wash it down with wax/grease remover and or lacquer thinner. Biggest issue is the condition of the fiberglass. It should be smooth with no "hair" anywhere. Contrary to "popular" opinion, Corvette press molding original fiberglass does not have any gel coat on the glass. 63 "original" fiberglass will be a nice white color. The color changed throughout the "midyear" model run.

If the glass is good and the surface is clean, make your repairs as necessary and start the paint process. Expect this body to be VERY wavy if original. If you see a 63 that is not wavy, it's been worked!
