Is there really anything special about the Katech G68V-2 chain? It cost a ridiculous $150 and it seems the same part on amazon is $50. Is this all hype created on the internet?

The C5-R chain has proprietary links and pins you can't get in other chains. You may be comparing it to the IWIS aftermarket chain for $50, but that is not the same chain. Only Katech and GM Racing have the rights to purchase the C5-R chain. It is used in the C5-R, C6.R and C7.R Corvettes that race 24 Hours of Le Mans and 24 Hours of Daytona. It's been a great chain for us that has never failed in all of racing or durability testing. We sell to many vendors, but be careful, there are some impostors out there selling the $50 IWIS aftermarket chain as the C5-R. If it doesn't have a Katech label on the bag it's not the C5-R. You can buy the chain directly from us, or vendors like Brian Tooley Racing, Scoggin Dickey, Tick Performance, Texas Speed or Lingenfelter.

Our retail is also dealer's MAP, so it should be the same price everywhere.

I see a seam on the rollers, so I'm guessing it is not a high end chain (I could be wrong on this)

The C5-R has seamed rollers. It has performed flawlessly in all applications. The C5-R chain has won the 24 Hours of Le Mans 6 times with Katech engines.

The quality of seamed rollers must have improved. At one time it was easy to spot the lower quality timing chains based on the rollers themselves.
