Hey all, I am new here and need some advice on my wheel/tire combo for my 67 camaro, monoleaf. Dropped 2 inches in front and stock rear. I want to run 235/45/17 in front but I am afraid of them rubbing so I will prolly go with 225/45/17s. I will prolly get a 7 inch rim unless I know for sure 8s will fit under the front. What backspacing should I run with these on the front?
Also I want to run atleast 255/45/17s on back with a 8 inch rim, what backspacing will I need there to be safe. I see on the stickies in this forum people are running 17x8's with a 4.5 inch BS in the rear. I am getting these rims this weekend as it is my 21st birthday so any input would be great.
As my car is stock height in the rear, can I go with a taller tire because I like the look of the tire filling in the wheel well as much as possible?

You can go with 245-40's in the front on a 17x8 and 255-45 in the rear on a 17x8 as well. I have 235-40-18's and 255-45-18's on my 68 and i'm very pleased with the offset look!! I can't remember the backspacing right now though..they are the same front and rear...it's either 4.25 or 4.75. I'm wanting to say 4.25

I have a 68 Camaro and am running 17 x 8 wheels with 4.75" backspacing in front and back. My tires are 245/45/17 front and 255/45/17 rear. I do have slight rubbing on front, but nothing that causes tire damage. If your rear is not lowered you will probably have a fairly large gap with a 255/45/17 and a taller tire would look better. Here is a picture of my car. I have DSE 2" drop springs in the front and DSE 3" drop springs in the rear with a 1" lowering block.

I guess my picture did not attach. If you would like to see pictures go to this thread. My car is the blue Camaro at the bottom of the thread

So what would be a good taller tire size to use on a 17x8 that would clear the rearend?

I don't think you have too many other tire size options with a 17 inch wheel that would be taller. You could go with a 255/50/17 which would be about 1" to 1.5" taller than a 45 series tire. You may also be able to go with an 18" wheel and tire combo, but I am not sure what is available in 18" tire sizes. Go to tire rack's website and do some research on tires sizes. They have specs on all the tires they sell.
Have you considered lowering the rear as an option? You can either purchase some lowering springs or have your springs de-arched. I think de-arching is fairly inexpensive if cost is an issue.

Yea, I have contemplated dearching my monoleafs. I kinda like the stance it has know, I am not trying to build a g-machine, I have a rx7 for that. But I will prolly give in and do it sooner or later.
