I am nearing the end of my project and I am currently tackling my electrical. I have taken the powertrain from a 2005 GTO and placed it into a 1969 Firebird. This includes the engine/transmission, dash/gauges, BCM, air bags, HVAC and fuel tank. I have utilized most of the components from the donor GTO but have a couple items I have to delete. I will not be using the ABS or traction control. It is my understanding I can have the PCM retuned to delete these systems, but I still have all the wiring in place. If cut the wheel sensor wiring from the system will it have any effect on any of the remaining systems. My thinking is that cutting them from the system would be no different than leaving them in place unattached.

I have the service manual for the GTO with all the wiring diagrams and feel cable in reading them. I know which wires go where but did not want to start cutting things that are necessary for the PCM or BCM to function properly. I will also be substituting in the Firebirds factory lights in place of the GTOs, deleting the power mirror and fuel door, and splicing in nu-relic power windows. Are the wheel sensors required for the airbag? If so I would probably need to delete that too, but would keep it if it was functional. Would love some input from anyone that has done something similar or more knowledgeable than I. I have done a ton of searching and couldn't really find any information that helped. I would also appreciate any recommendations on a good place to send my PCM to get the systems tuned out.

Are you using the GTO console switches for the power windows? I've got a variety of auto down/up kits for 1st gens to go along with your modern interior theme! I'm currently building a few 3rd gen fbody window kits with auto down using Volvo window switches. Can't help ya much on the PCM changes tho lol

I would rethink about using the OEM ECM and related components. Is it critical for you to use the HVAC and the GTO dash? Is it because of the other related system components? If you are willing to have a custom dash panel built with analog gauges and have a HVAC system installed like a Vintage Air, I would consider using a Holley ECU system. Your life would be much less complicated.

Can't speak for your actual question... but my gut feel is that there's a lot of engineering that goes into how big an airbag goes where, what sort of delay they have, etc... and just moving that over to an early F-body may actually be making the car less safe in a crash, not more.

Please be safe.

Thank you for the input. I do have the complete Nu-Relic kit and will be using those not the GTO console switches. All of the GTO components are already installed and fitting well. It is only a matter of deleting systems to complete the job. Retaining the airbags are not a necessity to me. I think I would actually prefer to delete them as well at this point.
