The engine, water pump and fuel rails have been painted body color (dark blue metallic). If it would ever be sunny out, I would take pictures outside and have the blue show up better. We also got the dash in the car to fit and modify the 01 TA steering column. Cut the firewall monuting flange off the 71 and put it on the 01 column. The picture also shows the 01 door handles final mounted. That's about it for now. Thanksgiving and Xmas are coming up soon. Should get a lot more done then.

Looks Awesome. What Are You Going To Do About The Door Panels?

How much of a bear was it to set up the 01's heater/AC box on the firewall? I'd contemplated doing the same but figured there'd be a lot of extra work getting everything to work right.

71FirebirdLS1;
I am doing relatively the same thing as you, I want to paint my LS1, how did you do this, what paint and how did you apply it?

Yea man...That looks great. I love the idea of a pro touring 2nd Gen Firebird! You just dont see those cars enough. Yody's is awesome too!
I too would like to know what you, and others, are using to paint the engines with. I assume you are using the same paint that is on the car? BC/CC? Is there no problem with heat and such damaging the paint? I have always used engine enamel before but would like to do something different this time around.
Keep it up!

We're using the upper trim piece that mounts on top of the door from the 71, but making a new panel with the 01 TA arm rest, pocket below it and the speaker housing attached. The 01 door handle is near the 71 door handle location and only had to do a small modification to the 71 pull rod.

we use bc/cc on the engine for every car we build. Just besure the original coat has something to adhere to(i.e aluminum-scotch brite it, cast-clean the **** out of it) no problems on any of them!

Yeah, it is a huge pain. We cut part of the 01 TA firewall where the box fit and welded it in place on the 71 firewall. Here is a link: http://www.extremefirebird.com/Chassis.html For the box to fit, the upper cowl had to be modified for the incoming air. Also, b/c of its location, a small area of the subframe needs chopped off for clearance. We haven't modified the subframe yet though.

The LS1 that we bought had a whole bunch of salt corrosion on the outside. A couple of days were spent using a dremal tool to clean all of the corrosion off. Made sure to clean everything very well with paint prep and etch primed the block, and painted two coats of body color before the etch prime dried completely. Then did a coat of clear.
