I'm looking for opinions on front coil spring rates for my setup (Viking Hybrid Warriors). I have a 1967 Camaro, stock subframe w/SpeedTech UCA/LCA's, LQ9 (iron block 6.0l) w/aluminum heads and the battery is in the trunk. I am doing the RideTech Tru Turn setup in front and a RideTech 4 link in the rear, with Viking Coilovers on all 4 corners. I already have all the parts in hand, and my front suspension is already apart...

A friend of mine is doing the same setup on his '69 Camaro with the same engine and battery setup and we have gotten very different advice on the spring rates. I ordered from a sponsor here and they recommended 450# springs. My friend was told to go with 650# springs, or 550# at the very lowest. He may chime in on this thread as well.

I welcome anyone's advice/experience. I pulled the front end apart today and was going to install everything tomorrow, but I don't want to use the wrong springs. Thanks.

Here I am:) Want to add we are both running stock frames, so the shocks are pretty damn close to a 90 degree angle. I just did a calculation (http://www.ridetech.com/tech/spring-rate-calculator/) with estimated numbers on weight and actual a arm lentghs and got a recommendation of 650 to 700LBS. I used 800LBS corner weights, 95LBS unsprung weight, Motion ratio A 8" and B 16"(actually numbers), spring angle 88. The factor i need to address is the shock stroke and spring length.

I depends on what you plan to do with the car. 450's will work for street and spirited driving but if you are getting more aggressive with autocross and track days you may want a 550 or 650. Sway bar rates also play a factor into this.

450 is to light a spring on a stock frame...you will have to use excessive spring load to get ride height and it will create a coil bind situation and the ride will suffer

MCB recommended me 650's for mine. 6.0, Iron heads, battery in trunk. Stock sub. Just have the fronts though.

Thanks Rod, can you explain this? Wouldn't it be harder to get the right ride height with stiffer springs? Wouldn't you have to compress them more if they are stiffer?

I'm thinking 550#'s might be a better option. Looking at the Viking website, they list 650#'s for a PT track focused Big block, and 550#'s for a PT track focused small block with up to a 2" ride height drop. They appear to drop those numbers down 100# for a 2-3" ride drop?

I'm going to hold off on the install until I know the right spring rates. This car is for spirited driving with 3-4 track days per year. It's not a daily driver, so it doesn't need to be cushy, but I routinely put 100+ miles on it at a time, so it's not a track only car either.

Cut through the bull****. Go to our spring rate calculator on our website, gather and enter your data, and get the appropriate spring rate the first time. No need to guess, or rely on someone elses guess.
