Wanted to pick your brain before I start purchasing parts for the 62 falcon build. I am planning on narrowing the rear frames of the car to accommodate larger wheels. Since I am building off a clean sheet, I was looking at going with the Calvert sliders or similar, more then likely mono leafs (still up for debate on spring rate, I guess Calvert is at 200lb) new hangers for the front. Now the question is pertaining to the front hangers. If I wanted to lower the vehicle to give it that pro-street look could I use a multi-hole front hanger to lower the vehicle? If so the new cross member will be 2x3 rectangle, what style brackets do you suggest?

Thank you

I don't have a direct answer, but Calvert offers different ride height options wth their springs. The Calvert springs are 2 piece and by changing the rear section they can alter the ride height without changing the spring rate.

Spoke to John over at Calvert and they offer 3 sizes (-1) standard and (+1). Even if i go -1 it would not lower the car where i would like it to sit. This is one reason i was toying with the idea of raising the front mount. Not sure if it work that way,but on paper it looks right haha.

I don't have experience with this, but it sounds doable. The issue I see is that there really isn't any room to move the front of the leaf up, which is what you need to lower the ride height.

Unless the rear axle is floated on the springs changing the front mount will cause a significant change in pinion angle.

I think it will also change the instant center.

You know that is a good point. i need to look it up again but i believe the rear is at 4 degrees on the pinion (standard mustang setting) i wonder how much it will change if i do move it.

As you move the front spring eye up, the instant center goes up. Not what you want.

Resetting pinion angle is a cake walk compared to pocketing the front hangers and moving framerails.

. Since I am building off a clean sheet,

It sounds like you are willing to go through the work, a link type suspension will do everything you want with less compromise and nearly the same cost.
