ignition revolution from column to dash..? help

Hey there guys,

i have a former auto chevelle, converted to 4 on the floor, my column is still auto with the lever removed...


I've found some real nice stainless columns and i have the room on my dash board, what is all involved to
moving the ignition/key to the dash if i decide to get a column with no key on it?

can someone list the parts? maybe even links?

Not really any "parts or links" to help with that I'd imagine, to be honest. I'm not aware of anyone who has done it, and I wouldn't personally because I like having a locking column. An issue with the 71 Chevelle would be putting it low on the dash, outside of the gauge/switch area. Putting it above like most cars would probably have the keys dangling on, and scratching the dash. It's doable, though you'd have to figure out how to wire the factory 2 plug ignition switch harness into the BAT/IGN/ACC/ST wiring of the universal ignition switch. You might have to figure that out with wiring diagrams, as I would highly doubt any offers a conversion harness for that. Pretty much uncharted territory, so you might have to be a pioneer in figuring it out.

I'd probably get the universal switch from American Auto Wire. They are very good with factory color codes and are very helpful with wiring questions. I know they were more than willing to answer questions when i wired my Cutlass.

Ya it's not somthin I want to tackle on my
Own...

But don't see why it would be a big deal..
All the early rods had it this way.
And 68 chevelles n camaros are on the
Dash. And like I said. I have lots of room
For it after installing my new dash kit..

Get a wiring schematic for a 68 and compare it to your wiring. Thick plug at the bottom of your column. That's your ignition switch. You can unpin the wires you need from there and redirect them to an ignition switch in your dash. Then you can swap out your column.

If it was me, I would use a Chevy truck dash ignition from the 70s
