View Full Version : I made a spreadsheet of tire brands/models and available sizes

Last year I bought a lot of tires.

I was getting really frustrated trying to find tires available in both the front and rear sizes that I wanted.

So I decided I'd make a list of all the tires that were available in sizes I might want. I have way too much down time at work lol. Now when I'm looking at tire and wheel choices for a car, I can quickly look at my spreadsheet rather than spend hours on tire websites.

I figured I'd share it here.

I made this list with the idea of rear tires 275 or wider, and matching fronts no narrower than 245. I didn't include diameters significantly out of the 25"-27" range.

For 18s, there are dozens in 275, so I looked up everything 285 or wider, added them to the list, and marked off all the rest of the sizes they were available in.

I included 19s wider than 275 only if they were on the list of 18s so they could be run as a 18/19 set up.

I didn't include any drag radials or track only tires.

I have no idea how to share a spreadsheet, so here's a pic of it. I can pm it to someone if you want it or know how to share it here in the thread.

I have a few thoughs after doing all of this.

15" selection sucks.

I wish these existed:
315/35/18
305/35/18 in a non DR
295/40/17
275/55/15

Some of these tire companies have way too many variants with the same name.

I think I'm going to stick with 295/35/18s in the rear of my projects from now on. The Fikses on my Firebird I bought used. They came with 315/30/18 Pilot Sports on the rear. the 295 Nitto Invos I just put on my '01 TA are only 1/2" narrower, but are a full 26" diameter and are 1/2 the cost of 315s.

I have my own mounter and balancer. I buy all of my tires from Discount Tire Direct and Tire Buyer's ebay stores. There are regular sales on ebay and DTD usually already has the lowest price on any tire I want.

I bought 8 sets of tires from DTD in march when they were having their $100 off $400 sale. It took some doing but I used the code 12 times lol. I even got a manufacturer rebate on one set too. They do this $100 off $400 every spring (I thought fall too, but I don't think they ran this sale for fall '16). It's an ebay exclusive, but I know guys have got local stores to match it.

I later bought another set when they did the $50 off $300 sale. They seem to do that one twice a year too.

Yeah alot of the popular sizes are only 25.5-26" tall. That's kinda short on the rear of a lot of cars. I bought some cheap 18s for my 69 Firebird to use until I get the wheels I want. I bought 285/40/18s for the rear. They're 27" and I think they fill the wheel well nicer than the 315s on my 67 that are only 25.5".

This is why I wish a 315/35/18 existed. It would be good at 26.7"

I am with you. I hate the mismatch in wheel opening and tire diameter that a lot of pro-touring cars end up with. Even when they are lowered, it just looks odd to me, not to mention I prefer having a little more sidewall. I am still on 15s and it's just depressing how few tires there are out there. Soon I will have to get my tires from Coker like the people restoring 1930s cars and all that will be available will be Polylas bias ply reproductions.

BTW I think that wheel/tire size combo looks great. I thought they were 17s because usually I don't see that much sidewall on 18s.

This is just the list i was looking for, thanks for the hard work.

What i find real surprising is just how few options there are in an 18" tire over 315 with only 3 mfg's listed. Seems like a 18"/335 was the standard for builds to be built around, but if a street/track tire is this limited in production how long will this size be around, you may be on to something with the 295? thanks again..

I too wish there was a 335/35R18. The little added height would look so much better in many of these applications.

I was surprised too. It seems like there were a lot more 315 and 335 18s a few years ago. I don't think the R888 is really considered a street tire, but I included it because it's popular for autocross. I would like to run 335s for the extra height and width over my 315s, but they are twice the cost of 295s. My cars are built for the street so I don't need all the grip of the widest, stickiest tires. It seems like tire sizes follow the OEMs and most performance cars are on 20s now. I will never want to run 20s on a muscle car. I think 18s are a good size, so hopefully there's a good selection of tires for a long time to come.

Privat Legende is the name. 18x9.5 5x120 +35mm. I don't know what wheel they were trying to copy but they look like a darker version of the Kinesis K59s that I want, so they'll do until I can justify buying the K59s.

Anyone have any reviews of the Pirelli P Zero Rosso Tires?

My ideal tire set up would by a 315/30r18 square set up, but I built my FRONT Forgeline wheels around the (at the time) avalibility of the a 295/35 so I have a 10" wide front, and I think the 315 is a squeeze for that width. It would tight on my fenders also.

So I could pull off a 295/30 with 315/30 in the rear. Michilen PS2 and the Pirelli Pzero Rosso offer these sizes. The PS2's are out of my price range, but the Pirelli is pretty close. I don't see any one really running these, its the typical Rival-S. and RT615K that I see people racing with

I am running the same wheels, well not actually "running" them yet since my car isn't finished but I have the 18x8.5 in the front and 18x9.5 in the rear. Have you mocked up your fronts yet? Looks like I will have to run a spacer in the front on mine but not sure how thick yet.
