I know you can widen a steel wheel, but don't think I've heard of it being done on aluminum. If this is possible what would a ball park price be to stretch 2 18x10's to 12's? Thanks

Yes, but it is all done on the back side. So if your 10" wheel has a 6" back space your 12 wheel will have an 8" back space.
If they are two piece welded wheel, they can be rehooped to 12"

Would anyone recomenned doing this? I just found a website that does this type of work for a reasonable price, and from what I can tell the guy does great work. Then I scroll down to another article and there's a guy saying he won't widen wheels because he doesn't want his customers dead. I realize the wheel may not be as strong as factory, or maybe it would be. There's so much conflicting info on the type of stuff. Would just like to get some opinions on the safety factor from those who know. Thanks

We have had over a dozen pairs widened. No problems, even on our track cars.
Weldcraft Wheels in Michigan. They're the best.

Weldcraft did mine, and I was very happy with them. Added 1" width to the rears. The first set of tires - no problems, tire shop mounted them up and the weld quality looked great. I purchased another set of tires a couple years later at DT and dropped off my wheels. They called back and refused to mount the new tires on the widened wheels. So I had to call around and search for a shop that would do it. Kind of a pain, and something to consider.

I had a set of wheels that were widened and had trouble finding someone to mount tires before buying my own machine. I would just tell them they were going on a show car with a blank engine so it just gets pushed around anyways. I already had a balancer so that was not an issue.
