Hey everyone. I've known about this site for awhile, but im just now starting to collect parts for my 64 chevelle build up.

Anyways, one thing that I havent sorted out yet is what material to use for body mounts. I can't bring myself to spend $90 for rubber bushings which will turn to, well, rubber when cornering. I hate poly. I havent seen any manufacturers that make solid aluminum mounts like you camaro guys. So I have been looking at various plastics:
1) Delrin: http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=USPlastic&category%5Fname=8765&product%5Fid=11275
or
2)UHMW: http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=USPlastic&category%5Fname=73&product%5Fid=4387

Anyone a materials guy? Which is better suited to ~3600lbs of A body?
Im thinkin of goin UHMW...cheaper and sounds better. Whatcha think?

First thing you may want to consider is the materials reaction to the elements or chemicals. I personally would pick delrin over UHMW. If it were me I would mock up a set out of UHMW then have them made out of aluminum. You could then have them anodized or hardcoated.

I would choose delrin. It is a lot better wear resistance. That stuff is hard as a rock.

I'd go with aluminum, you want the body and chassis tied together as solidly as possible. Just measure your old bushing's heights and get an aproximate diameter. Delrin and other plastic is slippery and could allow movement.

Agreed, stay away from UHMW/PE/Delrin for something like this; these plastics tend to creep under compression loads (move/mush). -Dan

Ok gotcha goin aluminum then. Maybe i'll just save the delrin for front control arm bushings.
