Not sure if this is right spot for this but?? I am tired of kerosene heaters for home shop. Anybody use propane Modine units or forced electric set ups?? Electric deals use some serious amps and my garage already has about as much or more power usage than my house. How much propane and size of tank is needed? You West Coast guys can just laugh at this question. Thanks

brian, we need to know size of garage to size heater, something around 1000 sg feet will need a 70-100 k btu heater, and you will need around a 100- 250 gallon tank so it lasts a few months, but let us know about the garage

Ive got a 1200 sq ft garage, fully insulated with R-30 and R-19.I went with a low intesity radiant tube heater.Highly recomend it!!! Feels warmer than the themometer sez.Very good on fuel and keeps everything nice and warm to the touch.Try this company, and I recamend the 2 stage model.Mine is a 50,000/75,000 unit.Which means that normaly it runs at 50 but when you need to kick it up it will run 75 for more heat. Also very easy to install.

I am using a used house forced air furnace. Got it for free. Check with a heating/cooling shop as they will have a lot of R&R units available this time of year. If you don't have Natural gas available there are kits to convert to propane if necessary.

In my 400 sqft garage, I use a 35K BTU propane forced air unit. It'll take the temp from 32 to 80 in fifteen minutes. I get about 4 hours out of a regular bbq grill tank.
