Anybody have any suggestions to help keep my center section from leaking gear oil from the flange. I've had the center section in and out of the car probably 5-6 times over the past few years and no matter what I try, it always seems to seep from the flange/studs. I've tried gasket with RTV, I've tried no gasket and just RTV. No luck. I always clean both surfaces with solvent and wire brush the studs clean. I always use Ultra Black RTV as well. Still wants to drip on my garage floor, drives me nuts!

There is one called "lube locker" that may work for you. Or you could try to seal the studs individually

You could also try putting crush washers under the nuts.

I had the same problem with my 12 bolt cover leaking. Edelbrock Gasgacinch stopped the leak. It is really strong, it was very difficult to remove the cover again.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I do have crush washers under the nuts but they have been on and off so many times that they are probably not working like they should. Anybody know where to source them from? I'll look into that Gasgacinch stuff.

Both of those.

What kind of nuts? What brand gasket? I've encountered leaks when the stud fits poorly into the housing or the holes in the gear case are too big.... if the nuts are coming loose try these

It may not be your gasket at all, you may need to remove each stud and seal them individually.

I did narrow it down to the gasket interface. I hosed everything down with brake cleaner to get everything squeaky clean. Then let it sit for a couple days. Slowly the gear oil started seeping out of the gasket. I re-cleaned it and ran a fresh bead of RTV over the area (I really didn't want to take the center section back out lol). So far it's still dry after sitting for a few weeks. Fingers crossed. I did order a new gasket and new copper washers as a back-up plan.

Do not use brake clean to clean the surface. Use brake clean or laquer thinner. I had that problem before and was told that brake clean leaves a film that most sealers can't stick to it.My moser leaks between the housing and the cnter section. I used brake clean and the better black sealer and last time I checked it had not leaked.

Had the same problem with my Strange 9 inch diff. Was sealed with RTV the first time it leaked and it lasted 4 years. The second time we used Detroit Diesel grey sealer and hit the surfaces with a light emery after using brake clean, to clean and give a little grip to the sealer. Has not leaked in a few months. I bought the copper stud washers but haven't put them on, if leak starts again will add them.

Permatex makes a sealer called The Right Stuff. It is a gasket sealer to replace a gasket. I had an oil pan leak . I had to pull the motor way up in the air and remove the trans, scatter shield to get it high enough to clear the cross member. Still had the leak. I cleaned all the surfaces with good lacquer thinner. I ended up cleaning the pans sides with brake clean and then lacquer thinner and put this stuff along the sides of the pan. It doesn't leak any more. Also used it the same way on my leaking 9" and no leaks so far! It looks terrible on the yellow pan but I will put up with it till I have to take something apart.
