I have a 67 camaro with a fiberglass lower valance from musclerodz (http://www.musclerodzstore.com/67-68camarocustomlowervalanceinstocknow.aspx) which is designed to eliminate the front bumper and mimic the 69 camaro lower valance.

I'm interested in installing a pro-touring front spoiler from Spoiler's By Randy (http://www.spoilersbyrandy.com/Pages) either stamped steel or the aluminum one.

Either way I'm concerned that the spoiler may hit something and it's going to crack or destroy the fiberglass lower valance and likely damage the spoiler itself.

I had one of the reproduction plastic spoilers back in the day when I had just the stock sheet metal lower valance and I remember hitting a parking block or pulling into a driveway or something and the plastic spoiler got ripped apart and it also damaged the lower valance.

My concern is paying $300 for a fancy spoiler and damaging my $400 painted fiberglass lower valance.

Given that when I damaged the plastic spoiler it was years ago and I was young and dumb and now I'm older and more careful. My question is, should I be concerned that I'm going to damage everything? Should I just purchase and try to be extra careful? Am I over thinking this? I'm only purchasing it because I like the look of the pro-touring spoiler and I doubt any function will be really achieved from installing it. Any comments are welcome. Thanks!

Thats a pretty valid concern and in my mind, quite likely.. but as you stated you're older and more careful, so it all comes down to how you plan to drive it.
I'm doing the opposite to you, and running a steel valance and plastic(easily replaceable) front spoiler. Something I learnt from previous import drifter days and I will probably install it in a way that it can break apart easily without damaging anything else, but I plan to autocross and drive my car car hard, so different preferences perhaps.

Thank you for the response. Yeah, even when I was running the steel valance and the plastic spoiler, I think what ended up damaging the valance was the metal support brackets ended up bending when I hit whatever it was I hit which in turn bent the valance.

I've owned the car since I was 16 and I'm about to turn 35 so theoretically I'm more mature and drive more cautiously. I'm about to pull the trigger and buy the spoiler but kind of wanted to hear from the crowd who may have similar concerns, situations or just thoughts on the matter.

How low is your car? I always thought that Randy's product wasn't as deep as the stock plastic one. Plus I would hope for $400 that valance would be strong

I am using the Randys spoiler and it is a strong piece .. I have it mounted to a metal valence, and have mounted a front camera to watch for any damage makers. If i do hit, I will probably need new fenders too.

The front end is definitely lowered but not all the way in the weeds.

I appreciate the comments. I was planning on installing a backup camera but didn't think about a front camera. Might be worth it. Do you just have a switch to activate the front camera when needed?

what ever you use ,you will watch for low spots and curbs

Randys makes a shallow version as well that should give you the extra clearance

Thank you for the replies. I considered the low profile spoiler as an option but it appears so small I'm not sure it's worth the money. The normal sized one looks good and I want it to at least be noticeable.

I also agree that no matter what I select I'll be watching low spots and curbs more cautiously.
