Hurst shifter blues, what do you do?

Am I the only one that goes crazy over the trans button/ Line lock wire running down the chrome just shifter handle. I'm thinking of a way to drill out the center, all the way to the bottom. I just bought a promatic, $100 on eBay. 2. Although I'm not sure it's possible with the curve. I can't use the pistol grip, sorry it's a Pontiac. Won't fly that, was a mopar thing, no offense. How do you guys get around this without trying to hide the wires.

I agree - I don't like the look of the external wire either. If it can be done internal with a horn, it can be done with a shifter I would think.

I used the steering wheel horn button in a '86 Monte Carlo at one time.

This was a bit of a project but it worked well.
While putting a new trans and shifter in my '56 Wagon a friend gave me clear red metalflake shifter knob. As soon as I saw it I KNEW it had to be lit from the inside at night...

This is the handle out of my BRAND NEW Hurst V-Matic 3 shifter...

I clamped it up in the mill and milled a slot on the front side of it.

I had to re set it in the vise a couple of times to follow the curve in the handle.

With the slot milled I had to drill angled holes to route the wire behind all of the "hardware" attached to the front side. The marker line is the depth of the slot and the yellow lines show the angles hole placement.

With the slot and holes drilled I could route LED wires up to the knob.

I know, I know, that is an ugly slot on the front of the handle... What to do about it?

Then stuck on the front and trimmed with a sharp hobby knife.

Now, granted, it's not perfect but nobody climbs into the car looking for furnace tape stuck to the front of the shifter. :)
mounted in the car it disappears and nobody knows how you did it.

That's really clever and a cool idea

I have an idea in my head about a 2 piece shifter handle with two halves that bolt together, with the channel through the center. Never had chance to do anything with it, nor do I think I have a use for it in my Firebird. Someday, but not sure if I'll need a linelock in a pro-touring car.
