C6 wheels on First gen

Sorry if this has been discussed before but i couldnt find anything (cant search for c6) but I'm able to line up a killer deal on some almost brand new c6 wheels, 18x8.5 front and 19x10 rear and get a deal on black powdercoating. Even with custom spacers i would be in it a good bit cheaper than any aftermarket ones, plus i figure with the big adapter ill be running ill have more than enough room for the uber wide c6 zo6 brake callipers... i was thinking to go down to a 235 front and keep the 275 out back it will be close but i think with the right size spacer i should be juuust right.

Well I tracked down a killer deal on some polished oem c6 wheels and tires, theyre 18x8.5 and 19x10 with 56mm offset front and 79mm rear, and right now they have the stock 245/40/18 and 285/35/19, i know this would be pushing it a little, but considering i can get custom spacers built would you guys have any suggestions as to what thickness i should get. Also the car has hotchkis springs front and rear so not too much of a drop.

with my math i got the rear backspacing to be 6.45" front and 8.11" rear

And fron what i collected i would need about a 1.5" spacer front, and 2" or so rear.

don't forget tire bulge...you can buy the cheapie 5/16" spacers just to see how far you need to come out...then order the real deal. what did they cost a set?

As for price lets just say, less than what the tires cost new, and theese only have 800 miles on them, and polished wheels is a 1300 option so i can always find a vette guy and easily make a few bucks.

Your idea sounds great, however i dont know exactly where i should have the wheel set in the wheelwell, just bolt them on turn the wheels and keep checking and checking again....?

when i need new tires ill probably go down to a 235 in front, and possibly a 275 rear, though 275 is awful small for a 10" rim.

275's aren't too small on a 10" rim. They will work just fine.

i concure. 10's are fine. good conservative space is 1" clear on each side. you can sacrifice less on the outer edge. I've gone 1/4" outer with no problems.

Well got the wheels, they look even better than i was hoping for and will look killer when on the car. Not to mention this is the ONLY thing ive bought for the car that is visable from the outside (okay radio antennas dont count) Its hard to see in the pic but they are a gunnmetal color aka competiton grey which will be nice with all the brake dust those c6z brakes will be kicking out. more pics to come when they finally get put on the car.

You've done your homework. I dare say you're within a quarter inch of what you'll end up with both front and rear.

Based on the offsets your backspacing should be 6.95" front and 8.61 on the rears. Now that you have the wheels though you can easily measure them to confirm.

Who are you going through to have your spacers made? I found a couple places but none of them had staggered pilots (the pilot holes are different between corvette and early a/f body, requiring different pilot holes on each side of the spacer).

I went to tomzwheels and found some wheels that I like. The black c6 motorsports are 18x8.5 with a +56mm spacing. I don't want to go any bigger than 18 because of the high price of the tires. My car is minitubbed so I'm thinkin of a 315/30/18 out back. the back two wheels will have to be widened.I forgot the website of the company to do it but I know its somewhere in this forum. I believe they can go out to a 18x11.5. I believe this will fit without spacers with a custom 9in rear. I will need spacers for the front which I can have made at a local shop. I'm gonna have them made 1 3/4 inch so I can put them on and have room to cut them down if need be. Can anything wider than a 245/40/18 go under the front? Does this sound like a safe route to go. Will the shallow backspacing be fine on the rears? any thoughts greatly appreciated before I drop the cash on it.

thanks vince. I bought the art morrison 32" tubs so I'll be able to fit a 14" wheel if need be. Probably never go wider than 315's though. that's the site I was talking about. motorsport tech .com's adapters look to be exactly what I need. appreiciate all the knowledge.

I though these needed HUGE adaptors to work on a factory suspended Camaro.. hmmm..
