RIDETECH PARTNERS WITH DSC SPORT FOR NEW Instinct Shock System

RideTech and DSC Sport have announced their partnership in the field of electronic suspension controls for the American Musclecar market.
DSC Sport of Jessup, MD has developed a stand-alone electronic shock system that will be configured, tuned, and sold exclusively through RideTech in Jasper, IN.

RideTech President Bret Voelkel commented: "We feel that electronic suspension control is certainly the direction for the future, just like EFI was 20 years ago. We have been investigating various avenues towards this end for several years…the DSC format has proven to be the most effective format available. We have been testing this system on a couple of our cars for several months with great success and look forward to supplying this technology to our customers. We have named this electronic shock package “Instinct” because of its ability to anticipate road and track conditions and make immediate changes to damping forces."

DSC Sport Michael Levitas commented: "DSC Sport has worked diligently for the last several years to develop this technology…we are excited to work with a company like RideTech who has demonstrated the passion to bring these kinds of new products to their loyal customers. We look forward to working with RideTech on customizing these systems for the American Musclecar market."

DSC Sport was founded in 2011 by IMSA Champion Michael Levitas in order to combine his years of race data and professional driving skills with cutting edge digital shock technology. In addition to the American Musclecar systems, DSC Sport also addresses Porsche, Corvette, Viper, and other extreme performance vehicles with this level of digital suspension control. RideTech was founded in 1996 by Bret Voelkel to bring [then new] air suspension technology to the hotrod and musclecar market with their patented ShockWave airshock. In addition to expanding to coilovers and other more mainstream suspension components, RideTech has taken the next step into digital suspension controls. Josh, way cool news man. I know this is a technology a few high-end sport luxury lines have been using for a few years and it is nice to see it hitting the aftermarket. Where can we go for more information on price and availability?

Does the system require a single wheel speed input or 4?

Also be interested in knowing can it use factory gm speed sensors if it's all 4 wheels . At that point is there a possibility that down the road traction control or abs could tie in too

The control system utilizes the following sensors:
-vehicle speed (typically pulled from the trans tail shaft)
-brake pressure (we supply the sensor, you install it anywhere in the front circuit)
-throttle position (if running an LS engine with drive by wire it's a simple throttle pedal "Y" adapter harness, plug and play. If something else we have TPS options.)
-G-Sensor (supplied with kit, it's a small box you mount somewhere central and flat. . .typically the console or under the dash.)

The Instinct shocks are a traditional monotube design with deflective disk shims and piston (just like our Fox stuff). So traditional tuning strategies are used. . .linear, digressive, regressive, whatever shock tuning worked in our Fox stuff works in Instinct.
The difference is that instead of the bypass jet being controlled via the rotation of a knob, the Instinct jet is controlled by an electromagnet. This allows the shock to go from full soft to full stiff (or vice versa) in 6 milliseconds.

The shocks are adjusted primarily based on a G Table. . .when the car goes negative G under braking X% of shock force is applied to the front for compression, and Y% is applied to the rear for rebound (the same bypass jet is used for compression/rebound, it's just the direction of the shock that changes). So the shocks are constantly being altered to provide what the chassis is requesting.

However, the really trick part is when you start looking at modifier tables. . .brake pressure, vehicle speed, and TPS. Now when you step on the brakes the computer sees brake pressure rapidly increase, so it adds percentage to the G Table.
In effect the shocks stiffen before the chassis has even begun to move. This means you load the tires just a hair quicker than if you were trying to do it with weight transfer alone.

Obviously I've spent a lot of time working with this stuff so if you have questions please feel free to ask. Do so by responding to this forum or hitting me up via email ([email protected])
