Are torque converters built any differently for a pt type car versus drag racing?

Nope, except stall speed. Don't want a 4000rpm stall for autocrossing!

The only difference you may notice is if you're looking at one that is a machined billet converter, or a non lock-up versus a lock-up converter, those look differently due to the manufacturing process. But like Schwartz mentioned they all still function the same way whether for drag racing or pro touring, or regular street driving, main difference is what stall speed is factored into the build.

Many years ago, the famous Art Carr told me that stall is not the only important factor, the "K" Factor was the most important where you want the torque for how you intend to drive the car. He tried to explain the "K" Factor stuff to me and it went right over my head.

ok, thanks. i just read some old ads and such.....been mainly into drag racing, and wasn't completely sure if there was any difference, but it sounds like stall speed and k factor change depending on application and intended use.....thanks! trying to get the car to pick up and move a lil quicker from a low rpm.
