Swapped to a 2004r from th400 and the drive shaft is too short. Apparently have a long shaft th400. What will I lose/gain with either?

Well, is the car lowered in the rear? How much?
You may consider not just a new driveshaft but a different kind of driveshaft. If the car is lowered, I would say that your driveline angles are completely out of whack and they are not fixable with simple adjustment of the pinion angle (ask me how I know). You may very well need a driveshaft with a CV joint, like I have in my 70 GTO...Mine is carbon fiber, but aluminum will work just as well.
