So I have this 67 Fairlane, the underside is pretty rough, i have been racking my brain, going back and fourth on Pro Touring, or street/strip.. I picked up a 2000 AWD V8 explorer for the EFI 5.0, and 8.8 rear end.. got a C-4, some 18 inch wheels, was basically going to build a 2x3 tube chassis and use a mustang II front clip from welderseries.com... well.. then i got thinking.. the wheel base on the explorer is like 5 inches shorter than the Fairlane... and the track width is really close.. sooooo why not use all the suspension, modify the frame, use the power steering, power brakes, heck as much as possible from the explorer and make an AWD fairlane convertible...so thats what i am doing... here is a pic of what i have for a car, and the wheels, they are 18x9 and 18x10 FR500 replicas..

The world needs more AWD conversions. Anybody know stuff that holds up to 500whp? Like CV joints, front diffs, transfer cases, etc.?

I like the sound of this. If you do this well, drag racing will be easy but you can turn corners and stop. :)

Since I saw your thread I started looking into this for my '60 Falcon wagon. I haven't been able to find any way to easily upgrade the brakes to 13"+ discs. It looks like the Explorers came with 11.25" discs. Any thoughts on upgrading brakes?

I had originally thought about using Saleen explorer parts..but they had issues and were all recalled...once the chassis is under it I am going to try and find parts to put at least a 13 inch rotor without spending a million dollars...we will see...I wonder if there is a way to use sn95 cobra parts...

That's what I was thinking. '03/'04 cobra brakes might work, probably just need to come up with a caliper bracket

Love the AWD! I purchased an AWD Savana for the engine and things got out of hand real quick. 1969 c10 on AWD van, neighbors hate me.

Did anything ever come of this? I love the idea of awd conversions, and fairlanes are just cool to begin with so this is a formula for something amazing.
Anything new, on here ? I'd love to read more...
