Wanted to get thoughts on my combo and what I've noticed. My '68 Malibu was originally 4 wheel drum (did not have a combination valve, just the block), converted to C5 front discs, installed a Willwood adjustable prop valve for rear drums and used the '77 Malibu master cylinder without power booster. This worked fine for a year or so. I then added LS1 rear discs and ditched the Malibu MC due to continual leaks at the lid (tried several lids, bent/tightened the lid clamp) and the fact that this MC did not have a removable residual pressure valve behind the rear brake line/tube seat, so it held pressure on rear brakes at all times. As a side note, I'm running Performance Friction front pads and Hawk HPS rears.
I installed the CPP 15/16" MC and noticed the following: pedal travel increased over the Malibu MC with rear drums, feeling of less brake torque and difficult to lock brakes from panic stop (maybe not necessarily a bad thing, but feel like more torque could be applied). I'm not sure if changing from drums to rear discs would increase pedal travel or if this is related to the difference in MCs. From what I understand, 7/8 Malibu MC should have more pedal travel than one with a larger bore. Maybe the CPP 15/16 has more internal travel?
After all of this, I liked the feel and function of the Malibu MC better (keep in mind, with rear drums) and wondering if another 7/8" MC would function better because it should give more brake torque over the 15/16 CPP MC. If so, I'd probably run the Dodge Spirit 7/8" but not sure how that might affect pedal travel.
Any thoughts?
