I have heard from a source that the C6 Calipers that are coming out this month and rotors will mount up to the C5 brackets. thats 14 inch front and 13.6 rear which would be killer. I was wondering if they will fit my Z06 wheels 18x9.5 and 18x12 and I hope it will work or I might have to go to 19's or 20's. Anyone out there know any thing about this new setup and if they will work, Bluaddict. :fingersx:

ahhh its close but workable. You might have to run a small spacer.

I would love to know more this as well. I have a complete C5 kit w/ C4 rotors, but if I could upgrade to 6 pistons vs. 2...oh that would be nice addition.

A quote from the thread Vince linked to-
I must say that I'm watching this mod very close. GM has a long rich history with warped rotors and if you ever owned a C3, you know this set up with warped rotors will pump air into your brake system. https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2005/11/ack2-1.gif

As more C6 Z06's hit the streets, we will see of these OEM rotors are as good as the C5 aftermarket rotors...

Flame suit on!
Some people need to leave the tech alone, warped rotors pump air into a sealed brake system huh?

Yes believe it or not the C3 4 piston brakes will pump air into the system if rotor runout is too large.

Too large is over .010" I think. The seal design has a lip that will roll back and forth on small movements and actually pump air inbehind the seal.

There are replacement O-ring seals that help that problem but they have their own problems.

Remember the brakes were designed in the early 60's and never updated!

Personally I run Wilwood SL4's on my C3..

And yes Yodi is right, some of them over on CF know something many dont!

haha i love how 90% of those guys just thought they looked cool.

but if they bolt right up to c5 hubs what about the afx spindle... hmm semi cheap huuuge brakes $1600 for the whole gettup dang!

so maybe ill be getting 18s afterall....

Maybe a few very rare cases of OE 30 year old calipers but I have worked on hundreds of C3 vettes over the years with a variety of brake problems and have never seen that. In fact any car with deteriorated lip seals could do the same thing under the right conditions.

Also check that whole thread, a few of those guys have done their homework and you can put together a Wilwood setup for less money...of course it is far less blingy so I'm sure we don't care about that.

I'm not giving away any secrets..........but the brakes still aren't released, and they will be more than $1,700. You can't put together a cheaper wilwood kit, as the Z06 brakes are about $1,800 front and rear. You will need minimal 18" wheels. But the problem is that they are very wide calipers and require wheels with spokes that are far away from the center of the wheel. I don't think many peoples wheels are going to work with these brakes, unless you run spacers.
Problems with these Z06 brakes
most wheels won't clear without spacers
aluminum pistons transfer heat (opposed to SS pistons)
brake pads are very expensive and aftermarkets aren't out yet, and they are very thin, which also transfers heat, also they get cheese grated by the cross drilled rotors
both front and rear use 2 left hand rotors meaning both of the right rotors are going to be backwards and heat up faster than the left
stock front rotors are 25ilbs!!!!!
2 piece 14" rotors are only about 17-18 pounds but are about $800 for just the fronts
stock pads SUCK. aftermarkets arent' out yet, but expect to pay at least $400 for front and rear.
Good things
6 piston front 4 piston rear monoblock calipers with multi piston pads(20 brake pads all together)
14" front 13.5" rear rotors
looks really cool..........lol
I am buying just the calipers/rotors now, and getting aftermarket pads later. And also later will upgrade the front rotors to 2 piece rotors.

I've been keeping an eye on these brakes for a while now, so maybe I've read the info in multiple threads. All I would like to know is where you bought them. It's okay yody, don't worry -- you can still be the first on the block with them. These would be for my 4th gen, and since it's winter I wouldn't be purchasing them anytime soon, not to mention I get factory stuff at dealer cost. Appreciate the info, though. :squint:

how much room between your rotor mounting face and the backside of the spokes of your wheels? also the spacing on your back caliper bracket won't be right either, you would most likely have to space out your bracket or caliper.

Ralph LoGrasso
11-13-2005, 08:39 PM
I've got about 5/8" at the smallest point (closest to center) to about 7/8" at the farthest. There is a lot of room there due to the design of my wheels. The spokes cup outwards. I'd need custom brackets either way.

yody
11-13-2005, 11:12 PM
Not sure where your measurements are from, if that is from the caliper that might be enough room, if that is from the rotor face, that proabably isn't enough clearance, PM sent, you sore loser LOL

Also 72SSAbody can you send me those part #s you were talking about. I am in the same boat as alot of you guys and bought the C5 kit for my 6/71 blown 78 Z28 cuz I really believe in Mores Law " Bigger Is Better " and I want to be able to throw someone through the windshield when I hit those puppies hard. No one has been able to get that $100 dollar bill off my dash when I got my foot in the gas, deep in the gas, Yeah! Someday it will be rolling again as I got some work injuries that are holding me down right now, but I am collecting lots of parts so when I am ready I can keep workig til its done, well I just might never be completely done as there is always something new I just can't live without. I guess it means I'm a true Gearhead or I'm working on it, Enjoy Claude.

I was just messing with ralph. There is no release date on the brakes, latest I heard was end of december. When I get the set I ordered(on backorder) I will be happy to take pictures and lots of measurements. I can be the guinea pig. THe biggest thing about these brakes is that most guys wheels will NOT clear these things as they are super wide calipes.

Precision Brakes "Mr. Parker" should solve the problem with the parking brake.

the parking brake is inside the rear rotor, just like a C5,C6 or 4th gen. I am waiting for all the guys to buy these brakes, to find out that almost all wheels won't clear the brakes. I have also heard a lot of bad things about the design of these brakes. A lot of the interest is because of the bling of these brakes. However I still don't believe everything I have heard read about them and will still be running them, my biggest concern is the front rotor weight. I will buy the GM rotors first(only like $75 each) and later upgrade to some 2 piece rotors. ETA on some of this stuff is late december, so keep a look out

ilovefirstgens
12-04-2005, 11:26 AM
Ditto with the rotors, 25 lbs is rediculous!
and as to getting them to fit ill be running c6 wheels with adapters so ill have more than enough room until i can afford some custom wheels that will clear.
for the front i was just thinking to go ahead and buy the afx spindle, having just recieved an oil pan and some brackets from the ats guys i know i will be more than happy with the spindle, their work is simply gorgeous!

I cant seem to find how to mount the rear calliper though, any tips are appreciated, and now that the car is stick i don't need an e-brake anyway! haha

For the record, it doesn't bother me and I am already ahead of you. I already did myself "a favor" and purchased a new C6 Z06, my second Z06. I think I know a little more about these cars and their brakes due to first hand experience owning Z06's.

Holy fruitloops theres a ton of contradictions going on here. I think we need a debate section that will allow an all out get what you want off your chest area. It would be an insane read!

Someone is always going to have more money then you, more toys, more hoes, more greenbacks. Jealousy is attacking the best of some of you. I try my hardest not to compare my car to others, if I did I would find myself in a costant state of depression. Who cares if that kid has a C6 Z06. Live your life instead of trying to live his.
