Hi

Something doesn't seem right with my measurements and I was hoping someone could help me. I'm in Australia so It's hard to call into a vendor to ask questions.

I have roughed in my Speedtech Torque arm without the 3rd member to check clearances on my 68 Camaro and noticed that I only have around 3.5 inches between the diff housing and frame rail - metal to metal, with the shock at full extension. I have the viking C205 with a total stroke of 3.82" and this was supplied with a 10" 225lb spring.. (even though viking recommends a 9 inch spring for this shock). Viking recommends that 60% of the shock be used for travel with around .5" to go as it hits the bump stop, so as not to bottom out the shock. that basically only gives me 1.97" of travel before the diff housing hits the frame rail... and I still have to get a bump stop in there!? The smallest bump stop I can find without cutting is 1.8". The car is minitubbed, so I can't use the standard bump stops. The shock is in the bottom mounting hole in the diff housing brackets. I could move it up one, but that would basically raise the whole car.

I know alot of people have set these up with Camaros, so wondering if I'm doing something wrong or hoping someone from speedtech can give me some feedback.

Cheers.

Everything sounds correct. The c205 is listed as having 4.2" of stroke. there is never much clearance between the axle tube and the frame rail we have a 67 we are doing right now and the clearance at ride height is 2.5" the shock installed length is 12-3/4 to 7/8 " listed ride height in Viking catalog is 11 5/8-12-5/8 so it actually has more travel than recommended. We don't run a bump stop in any of the cars and don't see any need for it. If anything you could mount a stop off the inside of the frame rail with a small bracket.

hope that helps you appear to be in good shape

Thanks Blake

For the shocks, I have revision 14 which states a stroke of 3.82". I measured it at full length and that seems correct. Should that be a concern? I got these around 2 years ago when my car was in the body shop. I'll try running without bump stops but I'll have to check that the transport authority and engineer are cool with it. (they are super strict here.. no fun). Also, one more thing... Am i winding the trailing arms so that the rear axle is centred between the front and rear of the wheel arch? then just measure both sides so the are the same distance from the front wheels to make it all square?

Great product by the way.

Sorry, one more thing. Is there any need to use a limiting strap on these shocks? Or is that predominantly just an off road thing. Just ticking all the boxes in the instruction guide. :)
