So I had a BDL Remington 700 30-06 but lost it in pawn loan, so recently I got back to work and picked up an SPS stainless Remington 700 30-06.
My plans are to build it up as a tach driver.
I am used to shooting accurate rifles my grandfather had. And I still can shoot pretty good if I have appropriate firearm.
So I do research, call 4 bigger gun shops with gunsmiths, give out the serial number and STILL none told me of the recall required for the trigger issue.
So after it DID AD I did MORE research in different vein and find it needs a new trigger which can be replaced by Remington or I can not ship it off and just buy a new aftermarket unit.
So off I go researching good triggers that wont break the bank.
Gun only cost $450, found BDL stock for $70, and ordered a Legacy 10 rd detatchable magazine kit for it $78.00 . Oh and spent $11 on scope mounts.
So now my next two purchases will be a Trigger Tech trigger and a Super Sniper tactical scope from riflescopes.com.
For the money I just cant beat the Super Sniper, shot others and always had great accuracy and return to zero.
also in the future after I reach the best grouping it will give me I figure on installing a Remage conversion.
I still have a want for Iron sights on it but may forgo that desire on this iteration.
so anyone else into long distance shooting, my reason for 30-06is its very versatile and I know more about it and other than the 300 Weatherby Magnum used to shoot of my grandfathers. Its long gone so Ill just build my own.

You seem to have not talked about the most important issues. As a competitive long range shooter I would want to know what length is the barrel , what barrel profile, what twist does the barrel have. The twist will tell you what weight bullet you can shoot. what length throat does the chamber have? Is the stock free floating around the barrel? What is the head space? I don't know about $11 scope rings holding the scope correctly. be sure to align and lap them and the minimum. Now down to the trigger I prefer a 2 stage trigger you can shoot a jewell or X-treme from my buddy Tom Myers a lot depends on what you want to do with this gun. hope you are going to load your own. you just can't buy any decent factory loaded ammo that is going to shoot well at long range. ie 600+ yards. go shoot some local 3 x 600 matches and talk to the guys they will help you with your set up.

So far all I have is the rifle swapped into a BDL wood stock, yeah I can spend more on "aftermarket" stock but so far none float my boat, besides I was shooting 1000+ back when I was much younger with old "hunting style" rifles and hitting pretty good.
Downthe line I way build another rifle but for now I will see what I can do with this.
As for scope bases, well they are Weaver two piece units to start. Yes I will most likely install the new scope bases and see just how out of align it is,,, or I may bed in a scope mount. Time will tell.
From the start this is being built from stock parts except the magazine conversion and scope mounts.
My plans down the road will be a Trigger Tech trigger as I have heard good things, my first choice was Shilen but want to try the TT, supposed to be frictionless and break like a glass rod.
Ill probably do some truing of the action and bolt later on but so far it is what it is.
My later plans are to pick up a Remage conversion barrel, its a Remington thread barrel that uses a Savage style nut to retain it rather than machining the barrel.
It allows you to set head space quicker and allows for barrel swaps.
I know a lot of people are shooting 6mm and 6.5mm both Lapua and Creedmore style.
BUT I love the old standby of my 30-06, we won wars with it so Ill stick with it for now.
I was reading on RPS blog about scopes and heck there wasnt one in the "list" he tested that I can afford let alone looking at aftermarket actions.
Ihave yet to stick my bore scope in the stock barrel and see how long the actual stock chamber is before the rifling. Bad thing is that the barrels alone run $300+ plus the barrel nut.
I will bed and free float the action/barrel.
As I sit around looking at scopes I STILL plan on a Super Sniper, most likely 16x42mq.
Ive shot a 10x and 12x and still want to try the 16x.
Also after reading the threads on "align honing" the scope rings. Many talk about using dowel rods and sand paper. I will probably check them with same idea. The other option is using bedding compound under scope mount(s).
Either work, but many rifle builders still say its not needed others do it all the time.
Now I am even working on building my own metal magazines to fit the LSI conversion.
I have a few other lower end options in tactical scopes. I went to a sniper/marksman training class where I was "certified" in hitting targets.
It was meant to push the shooters skills, help less skilled shooters learn ways to shoot and figure target dope.
The rifle I was using to get certified with was a BDL700, 30-06 with a 12x42 Super Sniper.
It had all the tricks, begging, truing, rethroating the barrel. It would shoot 1/4 MOA or better with Walmart ammo up to 200 yards and I was getting 1/2 MOA at 450y on same OTS ammo.
Match grade hand loads it was an even better tack driver.
That gun with hand loads would knock the b**ls off a flea over big distance.
I dont have lots of cash so a $5000 gun is out of the question.
I'll possibly do as much as I can on this one then save up for all aftermarket parts 700 and a higher end scope but dang those high end ones are super salty.
And I shot a top of the line S&B and honestly I wasnt as impressed as I thought I would be. It was good but the Super Sniper was shooting right with it.
