Safe Muffler Distance from Gas Tank?

Considering putting the muffler close to the gas tank on a custom chassis 67 Camaro build. What would be a safe distance? Would it be the same as the exhaust pipe? Thanks

hell man the factory traverse muffler was laid up right next to the tank, I say put in some heat shielding and thermal wrap maybe even ceramic coat exhaust and call it good.
