I know there is HP to be had in getting rid of the mechanical fan vs electric fan, Mechanical water pump v.s electrical water pump and manual steering vs power, But how much? Has anyone done dyno testing with each step seperately or with some of the steps together? Would be interested in seeing how much REAL HP is to be had by cutting down on these major drag components.

I can say this much, the reason I did the electric waterpump was for the amount of water it moves. 35 GPH+ at idle to redline

I can tell you that with an electric waterpump you are looking at maybe 2HP
Not enough to be repeatable on a dyno .
The Electric fan is a different story, more like 10-15HP, more if you start seeing the higher RPM ranges

one of the magazines did a story on fans a while back (within the last year) ill see if i can find it. most of the time is see elec water pumps its for the flow or for drag racing/running in pits etc or ease of installation with accessories.

What about the power steering? Reason I ask is I KNOW this must be dragging my motor down because when I go to turn the wheel at a stand still in my driveway, the motor rpms drop.

I was also wondering about the PS since I am currently in the process of converting to PS instead of MS. Hope I dont loose too much HP since I dont have much to begin with. :dunno:

I picked up 26rwhp with the following parts on my old 1988 Mustang GT with completely stock 5.0l
electric fan, underdrive pullies, removed PS.
I didnt do them individually and test, but all together. was at 195hp before, then 221hp after, then 227hp with fuel and timing tuning. It was enough for the thing to run high 12's on slicks. :bananna2:
