Hey guys I'm looking for some help picking out a top end for my 1968 Camaro. I'm looking to buy heads, cam, lifters, rocker arms, and an intake manifold. The car will eventually have a TKO-600 5 and 3.55 gears, but has a M21 and 3.08 now. Current 355 block has been decked and has flat top pistons ~11:1 compression with 64cc heads. May make the short block a 383 in the future. It has Dynatech 1 5/8 stepped headers with 2.5" dual exhaust and Flowmaster Super 40 mufflers. Also has Edelbrock 750 carb. I must be able to run power brakes. Used for mostly spirited street driving. Hoping to do auto cross if I can get to somewhere that has events.

So far I'm looking at AFR 180 or 195 heads and a Performer RPM Air Gap manifold, no idea for the cam.

Thanks for the help,
-Joe H.

P.S. I need to decide pretty soon. My current manifold sprung an oil leak in the back.

I have been very happy with my setup. I started with a Scat forged 383 stroker rotating assembly with flat top pistons in a 350 4 bolt block. RHS 210cc heads, Edelbrock retro roller cam kit pn 22015(kit includes cam, roller lifters, and push rods), 1.5 Harland Sharp roller rockers, Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake, Atomic throttle body EFI.

Do you think those heads would be too big while it's still a 350?

Personally, I would build with an eye to the future 383 so you are not buying new parts when that time comes. In the meantime the 210 heads, while not optimum, will certainly not be bad.

Thanks, I'll check them out

So I decided to go more budget minded on the heads. The savings will allow me to upgrade my clutch and rear to handle the extra power. So here is what I decided on:

Promaxx Maxx 183 heads
Performer Air Gap Manifold
Lunati Voodoo 268 cam
Comp roller rockers and double roller timing chain
ARP bolts

Should I buy 1.5 or 1.6 rockers? The heads are set up for .575 max lift and the cam is .498/.504 lift. I will measure the push rod length one the parts are together

I would go with the 1.6 pick up a little lift and power

That's what I was thinking. It would put the exhaust lift at .5376

Talk to Chris Straub of Straub Techologies. The Promax stuff isn't bad if cleaned up and everything checked and fixed.

Thanks, but I already received the heads.

Anyone know if seat height matters when looking to using a solid lifter instead of a hydraulic for checking pushrod length?

The lunati hydraulic flat tappet lifters that come in the kit have a seat height of 1.99 while the mechanical/solids they sell are 1.88
