I have a 71 Camaro and need new tires in a bad way. Currently I have Nitto Nt05s 275/40/18 and 245/40/18 and they are trashed after 1 1/2 seasons.
My question is should I get Re71r in 275/35/18 and 245/40/18?
Or go with Falken Rk615k in 295/40/18 and 255/40/18?
I know the Re71r are the bees knees for AutoX, however I have heard with a heavy car the Falkens may handle it better. Would the wider Falkens give more grip or would the stickier Re71r be a better choice?

Good question. Unless someone has done a head to head comp, my guess is you'll get subjective inexact info... speaking of: My guess is the re71s. But i only say that b/c of the hype. I am interested to hear any feedback though for sure.
I am considering something similar for my 68 fb. I did a minitub in the rear and am deciding between 275/315 rival s front/rear or mix 275 re71 f with 315 rivals rear. I know a nationals level autox-er that ran that exact mixed setup on his c5z06 b/c at the time there weren't 275 rivals avlbl to him. He said the stiffer sidewall of the 71r created a mismatch with the rears. He liked the more compliant sidwall of the rival for rear wheel HP car, made it more predictable and easier to drive that the more touchy re71. He recommended me to go rivals all around if i go 315 out back. Fwiw.

Here's a cookie Rodney, haha.
I got almost 3 years out of my RS3's on the rear of my car. They wear very evenly unlike the front, i'm always wearing the outer shoulder... Now that I trailer my RE 71s (to 100mi + events away from me) or scrubs for track days, the RS3s, though almost gone, are still plugging away as highway tires.
We all have our own level of events in a season (I also use the term loosely). I average 4 to 8 events per year. I'm not a regular at any club in particular and my skills probably suffer from lack of regular seat time. But that's what level I can squeeze with life and all and time spent working on the car. It works for me and I love every second I can get out there in the car.
But Geez Rodney, even the regulars of my local SCCA solo club can usually get a season out of 200 TW tires, thats 15-20 events and I think thats pretty typical. How many events and runs are you getting out of them? What are you driving?
