I've seen posts here and on other forums with a few folks running the '95 Spirit 7/8 MC and have a few questions. BTW, this is in regards to my '68 Chevelle with C6 front calipers, C5 rotors and LS1 rear brakes.

I'm currently running the '77 Malibu MC but it leaks at the lid (lid came warped and rim of MC is pitted from rust). Thinking the screw-on caps would eliminate this problem.

I've read the brake pushrod has to be shortened. How does one determine when it is the correct length? Do you use the factory GM manual pushrod? Does the end mate with the Spirit MC?

Also, I assume the original '95 Spirit had rear drums. Did you remove the residual pressure valve from the MC?

Thanks for any help!

To prevent the screw caps (1/3'rd turn) from leaking I had to clean them. That is once all brake work was done I removed the caps and pulled the gaskets out of them. Then cleaned the caps & gaskets with denatured alcohol to get all of the brake fluid off of them. Reassembled and installed onto the M/C. No more leaking/weeping from around the caps.

Push-rod length: with the pedal fully retracted there should be a 1/32" gap between the M/C piston and the end of the rod.

I don't know if the stock rod will work or not, or if it needs to be shortened.

The residual pressure check valve was most likely in-line in that car. If it is in the M/C it will be behind the flare seat. Take a toothpick and insert it into the seat opening. If it doesn't hit something within a 1/4" or so, no pressure valve is present.

Note that the Spirit M/C has the mounts on 3-3/16" centers, and the port fittings are 3/8-24 inverted flare.

Mopar mounts need a little grinding to fit GM width.
