View Full Version : Question for the pro Mustang builders - interior trim panel questions

Having a hard time finding an answer online and I figured a few of the pros here might have come across this.

I'm building a 65 Mustang Fastback.
My floors were replaced and I didn't have any of the trim brackets. So I ordered the replacement parts from Dynacorn.

In the pictures I've seen, the brackets that hold the rear trim panel (that follows the lower edge of the back window) are angled up a bit. Here's one picture I found online.

Here are the brackets that came with the dynacorn kit.

When I installed ones on the right in the pre-drilled holes, the panel stuck out too far and wasn't lined up correctly.

Trying to bend these brackets upwards just didn't work for me.

So I wound up taking the shorter ones and pre-mounted them to the panel and it looks closer...but I'd have to mount the tabs pretty much right under the window lip (since they aren't angled up at all either)

I found this picture and it looks like I need to have some room for the window rubbers to fit under the lip though.

So my questions are:

How much of a gap do I need between the lower portion of the window lip and the bracket?

Does the upper edge of the rear panel supposed to be under the window lip or is how I have it now (just a bit in front of the lip) ok?

If you don't have the original brackets...how the heck to you get these dynacorn ones to work?

I'll take pics and send you the measurements this afternoon.

Just fyi, the Dynacorn pieces are not perfect fits, you'll likely have to do some work to get them right.

Thanks for taking some pics for me.

I'd be happy if the dynacorn pieces were even close...but they're so far off it would be easier for me to make new ones from scratch.

Hope this helps. Sorry the images were not the best due to poor lighting. Appears the tabs are right up to the window gasket.
The first 2 pics are the drivers side, third is passenger and fourth is center.

Those Dynacorn brackets don't look anything like the stock ones...WTF?

WTF is right. I was saying it repeatedly when I put them in.

I plan on keeping an eye out for a parts car to show up and try to get the backets I need off that. Otherwise, I'll probably just make up a form out of a piece of wood and hammer them out myself when I've got the window rubbers in place and am ready to install the panels.

Dan,

If you had the stock brackets as a sample, I bet you can bend some up to a similar shape. They look like they start as 1" wide strips and are them bent at an angle. Since they are there only to hold interior panels, I don't imagine they need to be made out of very thick material.

If you're really clever, you can make a CAD (cardboard aided design) sample, then replicate in thin steel.
