from the firewall forward is CF. The budget was 100K on CF work and they maxed it out.

I think the hood and the fenders are 100% Carbon fiber the the doors have a strip across the top.

yes, the fenders and hood are 100% CF while the door is steel with a CF insert on the top.

A good airbrush guy can come close to carbon fiber, two different shades of grey or bronze sprayed through a mesh or screen. Than a tinted clear over that.

It wouldn't be difficult at all to laminate sheets of pre-preg over the steel.

I'm a newbie to the site, mostly just a reader/admirer, but at a place I used to work, we were testing a process called "immersion graphics". It's the process that Honda etc. use to put camo patterns on plastics. We actually painted some TQ midget parts black and "dipped" them through a carbon fiber pattern printed ink film and then clearcoated over them. They looked awesome. I'm sure someone out there does this for the general public.

The process uses printed ink film sheets that are place on water, sprayed with a solvent to dissolve the sheet (leaving only ink floating on water) and the parts are "dipped" through the ink.

We also did some Harley parts.

I'll try to dig up some pics.

I looked into this and will have a few pieces from the vert done soon, I'll try to get some pics up when I get them back... Sounds to me like a cool and fairly inexp alt to real CF. They can pretty much cover anything and is also avail in wood grains and alum coatings... def worth checking out.

I'm getting the autometer console guage piece for a camaro done as a test piece. I think they said $50 or so. if I like it I'll have more done

Exotic Wood Dashes does a pretty good "fake" CF coating..

The Fake CF on the Covans dash looks nothing like CF.. lol.. I had my interior pieces in my 2000 SS covered in real CF and the under hood stuff was the Exotic Wood Dash stuff.. most people were fooled and it was a hell of a lot cheaper..

Looks pretty good if all you are going for is a "look".. If you hold it next to real CF you can tell but by itself the illusion is good..
