Im about done with an engine swap. inline 6 and 3 speed manual to sbc with tko 600. I built my own trans crossmember and centered the mount 1/2 way between the inside of the frame rails. Ive noticed the mount of the trans wants to be about 3/4" off center to the passenger side. I can use a long clamp to pull the transmissinon over to center and it works just fine, but, im wondering if it is that way to offset the driveshaft to have proper ujoint anglein the horizontal plane? any feed back would be appreciated. Thanks

DO NOT force the transmission tail housing to the center! All you will end up doing is breaking the transmission case or bellhousing or worse. If you want the transmission centered you need to modify the front mounts to allow the tail housing to be centered without forcing it or leave it where it falls and redrill the mount holes in your crossmember. FYI, from the factory the drive train is offset 1/2" to the right hand side of the car.

there are slots on the transmissions mounting points and if i let them be were they naturaly sit it will mount to my crossmember but it will mount off center to the passenger side. if i force the trans to what i believe is the proper location i can then lock the bolts down and it will be centered. I think when i force the mount location it is twisting the motor mounts ever so slightly. Should the output on the trans be centered or should it be offset to the passenger side. What is considered correct?
