Add functional cowl induction to carbon fiber hood

I was thinking about adding some locking hood pins to my Chevelle and was thinking that while I'm at it perhaps I could add a functional cowl flapper as well. There are plenty of kits containing the necessary parts, but I'm not sure about cutting through the carbon fiber. A hood pin hole would be easy, as you can start small and simply work your way out to minimize or recover from mistakes, but that approach wouldn't be possible with the flap because the central chunk cut out would need to be reused to fill the flap hole.
Has anyone tried this? I've seen ricers cut flaps for vents, but again they discard the center. Any thoughts on this? Maybe it isn't worth the hassle.
