I have a 1970 Nova being built by the car is mini tubed to fit a 12" in the rear but he is going to put 18x12 in rear and 17x6 in the front is this ok or do I need to have a wider wheel in the front or can a wider tire fit on the 6" and be fine I wont be doing much if any racing I just like the look of pro touring cars and I'm putting out the money to be able to race it so any info would be great , he is putting the ride tech shockwave system on it as well oh and maybe a few decent tire recommendations for the look but handle daily driving , what are some of the must haves for the car for racing it if I decide to

No pro touring cars have 17x6 front wheels. I'd put at least an 8 on there.

If you want the car to be a cruiser, the 17x6 is fine. If you want a Pro Touring car you need to go bigger. People all have different ideas about what Pro Touring is, but most of what I have seen is people want cars that perform.

6" wide is not going to let you run enough tire on the front to get the car to turn with 325 or 335 section rear tires. Widest you can realistically run is like a 205 on 6" wheel. The 18x12 rear and 17x6 front is more a "big and little" combination, almost like the Pro Street look from the 80's. Car will plow like a John Deere.

My car is a little bit smaller than your Nova... I currently have 18x9 front w/ 255/40s and 18x10 rear with 295/40s. These are Falken 200tw tires that I will be starting out on, when I am ready I will look at some higher $ wheels and go a little bigger later. My car is mini tubbed as well and can fit a 335 or 345 section tire in the rear. I would find out how much you can squeeze under the front for starters. In my case I can fit a 275/35-18 on an 18x10 without too much drama, then for the rear I would like to go with a 325/30-19.

So poke around and find out how much tire you can safely run in the front and work from there. I'll bet you could go at least 275 on an 18x10 wheel. Don't bother with 17", not much for tire selection there.
