Hey me again!!! I amhelping a buddy of mine on his chevelle and he wants to do the "truck arm" suspension like the hot rods to hell kit. BUT we are tight a$$ dirtballs who like making stuff :seizure: . Anyway he has a junk 70 Chevy pickup 1/2 ton 2wdr that we might use some stuff off of. This all looks very doable, it might not be 100% show quality but it should work just the same. My only question is , is there a certain length the arms have to be I noticed on the truck they piviot in the same spot as the hanger bearing, so should they piviot by the slip yolk in the tranny on the chevelle, or do we just make them what ever length fits best or is the longer the better??? I would imagine the length and mounting point changes the instant center of gravity. Any advise would be great!! Oh and by the way there is no floor in the chevelle so clearance is not an issue. Thanks

The arms are set by there length in where you mount them. The panhard bar location and position is the big factor.

Let the suspension gurus give you a better answer but at least you have a start.

Yes, but there must be a reason to there length, when the guy who made the arms for the trucks asked how long to make them, I'm pretty sure GM didnt say "whatever you think".

From what I remember reading in a suspension book you would want the arms to mount at the center of gravity, so you will have maximum weight transfer.
Other than that, having them mount at the slip yoke keeps the driveshaft from moving too much.
