After having my car for three years I took it to Gainesville raceway lastnight. The car preformed perfect the whole night including the 120 mile round trip to and from the strip. The car was super consistant and ran 13.9s the whole night, and mph was 80. My best 60 foot was a lousy 2.1. I launched the car at idle with no tire spin.

I am hoping with better driving and a couple bolt-on parts i have the car will get a 13.6 next time out.

80mph and 13.9 don't add up to me... Are you sure one of your numbers isn't off? My Beretta runs 16.1@83mph in the 1/4. My Camaro has run 9.5@76 in the 1/8, which is probably good for a 14 in the high 90s.

Drag racing is loads of fun, I plan on going at least once a month next summer.

Play around with how you launch the car and shift, tire pressures , dump some weight etc.

No my numbers are not off. Well I didnt have alot off time to prep my car. Also I need a tach to be more consistant on my shifts. Next time I will try and make more runs and play with diffrent things to improve my time. But for the first time I am happy with the car's performance.

Keep dailing it in! With 13.90s the car should be running near 100 mph anyhow. Good luck!

So do yall think if my 60ft was better it would put my car in the correct mph range. Also if I got a 1.9 60 ft how much would I possibly drop off my times. Thanks for all the info guys.

That 80 seems slow, but theres no reason for you to not tell thr truth. anyways just to give you an idea im running 13.5@109 with major traction issues. good luck and keep practicing. its a lot of fun

Lower 60 foot times will drop your et quite a bit. MPH won't pick up much though. If the car is not spinning much and you are running it through the trap WFO at high rpms then the mph should be there.

13.9 @ 80! WOW! That is a pretty good time, but the MPH is way off (it seems!). Did you let out at 1000' instead of the quarter? Was it redlined at around the 900' mark? What gears? 5.30? That time is good, but doesn't add up to the mph. Were you on radials? If you can foot brake it as high as it will go without spinning, it should pick up maybe a couple tenths in the 60. Keep us posted!

The Photoshops in your cardomain look nice. Why make it look like a Cudas though?

Some of the members here were just kicking around some diffrent ideas with the photoshops.

After thinking about it there might be a slight chance I could have let off at the 1,000'. I dont think I did but it is possible, because I wasnt sure where to let off at.

I wonder if you might not have your throttle blades not opening 100%? The MPH seems low compared to the ET, especially given the 60' time. Just for comparison, I've run a 14.0 at 101 in my '96 Camaro with a 2.2 60' time. Typically MPH is more of a function of HP and Aero, ET is more of a function of traction and chassis setup. The two are related of course.

It sure brings a big grin to your face to make a run though doesn't it? Congratulations.

13.9 2.1 and 80mph sounds right if he's boggin then has to get back up to speed. better traction, looser verter, and tuning should get you better times. not too shabby for 1st time out.

My car did not spin the tires, I was at full throttle the whole time. After work I am going to make sure the throttle blades open corectly. My runs were drama free, the car must have looked slow from the outside.

Let talk burnouts. I dont have a locking rear so I just spin my one tire and just hop on it for a second or two. I figuer my tires dont need much of a burnout since they are just your average street tires. Am I right?

Man do I feel stupid.:pat:

After a second look at the slip I realized the 80mph was my 1/8 speed, the 1/4 was 99mph. Sorry

Nope I been dong the one tire fire for three years. I will get a posi soon. But the other night it didnt matter because the car didnt spin.

13.9 @ 99mph
Sounds like if you could get your RPMs up off the line and some other mild changes you could get somewhere around 13.6 102 mph
What gears are you running? Gears and slicks make the night and day difference. You can usually knock of .50 just with gear change and slicks. Thats if you can launch at a higher RPM.
Just depends on how much you want to drag race.
You dont want to do a burnout at all with street tires. Go right around the burnout box and avoid the water.
For a temporary fix you could weld the rear end and make it a posi if for now your just interrested in a better quarter mile time. I ran my car like that for a lonnnnng time before installing a spool.

I'm not going that hardcore into drag racing, just going to do some little things to help my time out. But that my change if any of my buddies are faster than me next time.

A little off topic but does anybody have the directions on how to install a MSD 6al?

Call MSD they will fax them to you, but yes I have them, but my Dad borrowed them Sunday

The MSD 6AL is very easy to install especially if you already have a MSD distributor. They just plug in together. Very easy and your tack just plugs into the side of the box.

As a side note, that Camaro spoiler looks good on the Nova. I've never seen that before!

I have to agree. That actually does look like a great fit on there. Dare to be different and it looks good too.

it all starts as fun, then the addiction sets in and 13's and 12's do cut then its 9's and 8's and if you turn out like me you've got a 6'second street car.which lead to a full out on kill pro mod.have fun there's nothing like the the rush.

Thanks for the comments on the spoiler guys.

For now I am not going to get to carried away with drag racing. Unless a someone from my town kicks my butt next time, then I will have to put a stop to that.

My Camaro with a so-so 350 runs wicked 15.60's @ 85 with I would assume 2.73 gears (haven't checked) and 2.1 60 ft's.

Your numbers do seem a little odd.

I <3 drag racing.

He already corrected his 80mph problem in post 17. There is nothing wrong with his numbers now.

Remember....No matter how fast you go, there is always some guy in your town that will go faster. A 13 second car is faster than about 90% of the cars out there. You will get your ass handed to you by most mildly modified LS1 Camaros, Corvettes, Cobra Mustangs, Vipers and others that I can't thinkof right now.

Running 13s on your first time out is really good. When I took my GTO out for the first time to the drag strip, back before the rebuild, I ran a 15.8@88MPH. So good job!

I will add to Andrews post by saying my first few time on the track with my camaro was not a happy one. I had a 350 that had many miles. I was running 19's and 20's. Talk about disappointing and embarrasing. Later after some of my own inspection, I found out the guy I bought the car from put the wrong carb on and the secondaries werent opening AT ALL. They mechanically didnt even line up with the holes.

Andrew- what I ment is if any of my friends kick my butt next time then I will have to do something. There are alot of guys in town faster than me, but they have more experience and money than I do.

When I pulled into the strip that night I was guessing I could maby run a mid 14 but to my suprise the first pass was a 13.9.
