Curious to know if anyone has put a headliner in a convertible Chevelle (or similar). When I had my original-style canvas top I don't remember it being super loud but the Stayfast cloth top I put on seems thinner and perhaps louder. Maybe it's all in my mind, but there isn't much difference in noise between top up and top down, so I was thinking a bit something heavier might be in order. A thick fabric perhaps, or some ensolite sandwiched between the top and something thinner, I dunno. The top seldom goes up, but when it does it would be nice if it were a little bit quieter. Not expecting much given that it's about as aerodynamic as a rolling brick but anything is better than nothing.

on my 69 chevelle conv my interior guy used late model corvette material which is a thicker material and kept the noise level down with the top up greg

But you're talking about an entirely different top I guess. The top I have is new and looks great so replacing it isn't really an option.
I think I'm going to buy a headliner out of a Sebring and see if I can make it work. Some for F bodies and Mustangs pop up on ebay cheap but I'm thinking the Sebring might be closer to the right size.

It seems as if the top was not tensioned enough.

It's plenty tense, but cloth is thinner and less dense than the vinyl.

Curious if that will work. My car is loud as hell. I was thinking resinators or quitter mufflers. You're onto a good topic. Let us know. I might follow your lead on this one.

It's been raining or snowing here for weeks and will rain for the next 10 days or so it looks like. Once (if) things dry out I'm going to visit a few salvage yards and see what turns up. If nothing else I'm fairly certain I can make something. I'll post up whatever I find.

shaun,
i wound up adding two mufflers after the rear axle. the two under the car werent enough and if really helped.
Question though i have to replace my top can you recommend a manufacturer for a stayfast replacement?
Also ive heard of an inner insulated liner, like the one in my wifes benz, may assist with resonance?

I got a stayfast made by Haartz (sp) I think. A thicker top boot and a baffle behind the rear seat might help with the resonance but a thick trunk carpet that goes up over the wheel wells might be easier. Something like a Range Rover has a decently large, flat and thick trunk liner.

I was also thinking of the huge void in the seats. If you pack the insides of the rear seats that sould help too

You'd have to pack it pretty full of something dense though, and then it might not be comfortable. Not like it was anyway I suppose.
