Been looking for a while and a fresh built 454 showed up with machine work I was able to verify from a good shop. Problem is, it was wrapped in this and I got it all for less than the cost of the engine:

It's a quick picture I took at night, but it's an 85 C10 short bed, no rust to speak of, and most of the body work done. I feel like it deserves to be a nice driver for somebody once it gets my old 350 back in it but really no idea what to do with it.
I'm initially thinking back to the OE color, some control arms, rear discs, and a 2/4 drop.

That's the best way to get a BBC, with a "free" truck.

Problem is that 454 is probably equipped with cast iron heads which means it will be HEAVY.

True. Maybe I should mention I get a supplier discount from Holley? Aluminum heads will probably land before it goes in the Impala.

Drop a sbc in the truck, hit it with single stage enamel non metallic in a popular color, blue, maroon, red, black, those sell well, sell it. Let the next owner figure out the suspension. Some people like em tall and stock.

Post up 454 details, head casting numbers. Some of the oval port heads perform very well, some dont.

Better yet buy beer pizza and buckets and 4 sleeves of 320 wet/dry paper and some sand blocks and have sanding party.
Hit Rural King or Orschlens for gallon of primer and gallon or two of decent color implement paint.
Pull grill and tail lights and coal liberally. Add hardner for better shine.
Actually wish it was close to me, might be interested in SB box Chevy. Really can't wait for better weather so I can diag my truck engine, think it's stuck and it's on got 50-60 k miles on her. Mis driving my low riding c10 ( has air ride).
