Hey guys I just finished installing my 3/16 steel brakeline on the rear of my 70 Firebird. Where the brake line runs down the rear axle tubes I used an aluminum bulkhead in order to connect the line to the flexible braided brake lines that go into the caliper. All of the hard lines are Steel. Is it ok if the bulkhead is aluminum? Here's the bulkhead I am using.

I have always heard that for brakes steel is desirable, but honestly, I can't imagine aluminum being an issue. Have you looked at the pressure rating from the bulkhead manufacturer?

Hit up apogee. He has all your answers. I believe it is a corrosion issue between the 2 metal material for factory cars. Same material= less resistance = slower corrosion rate. With that being said. I have used aluminum on my personal vehicle with SS line with no issue. As with any build check and recheck the flares are seated correctly. And routinely check for leaks and fatigue. If it doesn't look right..... It probably isn't. Curios why that particular fitting instead of a -3 to -3 straight bulkhead. This adds another fitting?

The brake lines are standard 3/16 inverted flare so I needed the bulkhead to adapt to AN fittings on braided line to caliper. I talked with Ron Sutton and he said fine, no issues.

Got ya. I didn't see the fitting was IF. Good call on R.S.

There are steel IF-AN fittings from most AN suppliers and Speedway has the brackets similar to the one on that bulkhead for them. I used them on my 79 Camaro rear end.
