So I was just shopping around for a coil over package for my car and was checking out some install directions when I suddenly realized Im not going to be able to do a rear c/o kit on my car without welding new brackets to my axle tube - right? I dont know why I remembered this but I took this pic 4 years ago almost and I though the shock mounting brackets looked odd (busted) and it JUST popped into my head while shopping. See the pic below -

Options are - new brackets or new axle?

Interesting. My first thoughts were that someone relocated the shock higher to allow for a taller spring/spacer to jack the back into the air, but it looks like that mount hole is actually broken off.

But if that's what you're worried about, I wouldn't sweat it. Any good welder can fab a new mount, and sandwich it for more strength. Should be a 30 minute repair.

For Coilovers, you will also need Brackets to attach them at the Top! These are different from the OEM locations

Right, I thought I was going through the direction linked from your website but I dont see a kit for the rear anymore. My plan was buy the front travel extension kit from you, possibly the c/os and springs if you carried them as well as the rear kit. I'll PM you for a quote. (Note: your 2" progressive rate lowering spring are the best in the biz imo, BUT I WANT MORE)

Most of the rear lower brackets bolt to the location of the lower shock mount. Ridetech, UMI and DSE all have direct bolt on kits. The uppers bolt in the stock location on my Ridetech kit and they had a different set of brackets for GM and Moser rear.

That's a common issue with the A-body brackets. When you put air-shocks on them it just beats up the bracket until they break. It looks like that's what happened here. You basically have three options.

1 - Repair the bracket by welding in a new piece of steel.

2 - Remove the existing bracket entirely and replace it. The drawback to this is you will need a housing fixture. Not a bad prospect if you're thinking of making other housing upgrades. Plus, this would get you more adjustment on the lower control arm.

3 - Bolt on a set of our coilover shock brackets, buzz off some of the powdercoat, and stitch weld the new bracket onto the old. Tidy it up a bit and you have a strong and functional bracket.

The Chassisworks bracket is made from heavy gauge, laser cut, CNC bent stee, and are fixture welded for precision fit. More details HERE. (http://goo.gl/twdSaJ)
