Picked up this 79 C10 the other day for $2175. Drove 800 miles to get it. Body is rough as hell, but everything else was supposedly solid. Thought maybe I'd do a wheels/tires/lower and see if maybe I wanted to sell it, but that hasn't panned out. Truck has a 30 over 454, Edelbrock performer RPM intake, and the rest is pretty much... gahbage. Carb had no choke provisions at all (I live in Wisconsin) Passenger side was a long tube header with 2" primaries. drivers was a block hugger into what looks like plumbing drain pipe, with the trans crossmember cut to hell and barely welded back up. Floors need replacing, power steering pump lines are leaking, it's got a lot of real sloppy hack work just about everywhere. Ordered a new quick fuel 780 carb, new 1-7/8" primary headers, an X-pipe kit, and Flowmaster 44s, and the stuff to fix the problems I've found so far.
Also ordered up some American Racing Boulevards in 18x9.5 with Goodyear supercar F1 (I know) in 285/40. Also did all new ball joints, and a McGauhys 4.5/6 drop. Front is done, rear was missing the spring bolts, and still waiting on the shocks. Have to weld back the pieces they cut out of the frame to fit the stupid big headers (!?!?) but plugging way at it. Also the column was junk so going to a TCI Outlaw floor shifter, making a bracket to fit that after I fix all the cancer in the floors. And then have to find a new column.
I have been building custom bikes for 10 years, but this is a whole new animal. I know this is a super mild build compared to most of you, but it's the first car I've done so I'm taking it slow/easy. It's a rough go. Every part I remove reveals 13 more things that need to be fixed. Wish me luck...
