View Full Version : DIY lizard skin.
Has anyone ever messed around with making your own DIY lizard skin?
Any input would be appreciated, Im looking more for a sound deadening coating than a heat resistant coating.
Here are a couple links regarding DIY lizardskin discussion.

I've done it. Honestly I think the secret to lizard skin is the thickness. The diy stuff works okay. The real stuff is better but way more expensive.

Do you happen to remember what products you use?
It sounds like there are a couple different ways guys have done it,using multiple different products.

I sprayed the bottom of a impala with U-pol Raptor liner. It isn't on the road yet.

Everyone says lizard skin is latex paint and microballoons. So I got a gallon of latex paint and a bag of microballoons. Painted it. Then did real lizard skin next to it. It's about half the sound. Be careful if you use the microballoons. They are tiny glass spheres. Extremely bad to breath in.
Thanks willie, so just to be correct you thought the lizard skin was 50% better than the DIY lizard skin and the DIY lizard skin was 50% better then nothing at all?

Yes. It's like peal and seal compared to dynamat. Not the best but better than nothing. It was super cheap if you buy everything right. Meaning. Wrong mixed paint for 5 dollars a gallon. And a big bag of microballoons from spruce air.
