I'm leaning towards using the Martz front end on my 69. About 99% there, probably within a month.

We have the quarters and mini tubs going in now back half done by April then the front clip should be pretty easy It's a 96 cobra motor w ported heads forged internals and stock cams right now with a 76mm turbo. Put 950 to the wheels in my cobra. Looking to hit 1100 or so in the 66

Further more my buddy is trying to get and I pad to pop out of the dash for navigation like the newer cars. So we're a while away from that but should be interesting

Well it's been pushed off for awhile but now we're back at it changed things up a bit just ordered a 9" rear sumped custom fuel tank from martz chassis and went with the aje front coil over suspension found out I can fit a 19" on the back w 315s and 18s on the front

133311This is what 17s x 10.5 look like w 315 tires. Too small if u ask me
Rtwardy
10-22-2016, 11:09 AM
And hears the 315 from the back w the 4 link brace. 335s would fit but u would have to be dead on w the backspacinv on the rim. It would be tight but will fit

The new shock towers to fit the mod motor. I went with the aje colt 45 front suspension instead.

Curious to see how so,e the Sunspension works out. I am planning to run the aje front end stuff as well. Was thinking of going with aje rear stuff but I might consider the Martz stuff.
I want to run 315x30x18 in the back. What brand tires are those you got sitting in there?
Are the mini tubs by DSE?
Rtwardy
10-22-2016, 01:47 PM
I did martz rear it's super nice kit. Was gonna do there front but it's more involved and the aje u can fit 9" rims in the front The mini tub is a auto works. W the dse frame insert. W the rolled lip I have 13.5 inches from frame to fender The one pic is 315 35 17 and they fit no prob they are nittos but on the 19s I'm going the proxy 888s

10-23-2016, 04:48 PM
You going to use the 8.8 rear? Will it need to be cut down? What wheels you plan to use?
Rtwardy
10-24-2016, 09:19 AM
No it was hard to get someone to cut it down so I went w a new 9" from martz I get to pick the length I wanted (54")and that already has the brackets welded on for thier 4 link. I'm going with these tsw wheels 133338with proxy 888 tires

Nice. I like those wheels. What back spacing will you need?
Rtwardy
10-24-2016, 07:31 PM
They were the closest to the super snake rims I could find that fit the backs will be 6.81 backspacing basically identical to my cobra r rims. Fronts I'll have to figure out once the suspension gets installed

@xsboost90 Actually we just got to the front suspension it says it's bolt in but there is only one bolt. I take it u need to drill threw the frame for the other 4 ?? Do u have any pics of the install. And what steering shaft did you use ??

11-08-2016, 05:56 PM
there is from what i remember a hole that lines up with the cross member. That one wasnt used but just for reference- the other four were drilled all the way through the frame- after you cut out all the other old stuff- and then open up one side of each hole- i did the bottom, slide a sleeve in there- supplied- and then weld it in. So my kmember has four large bolts that hold it in. The front suspension bolted up very nicely but they didnt have any info about a front swaybar and i had sold off my stock one. I bought a stock style bar biggest i could find and it fits, but i had to find some custom length links at autozone to get the bar to clear the rack correctly. I also opened up the existing notch in the bottom of the frame to clear the bar should i bottom the car out. I used a fox mustang cobra rack, 1994 spindles, 1997 cobra brakes 13", their struts and mounts. Oh i bought a Flaming river column that was "mustang length" and made my own mounts. Bought a (Ididit or Flaming river)-same stuff- shaft kit to connect the column to the stock rack and cut it to length. Worked very well and just had to ding my header in one spot to clear the shaft.

What size rear tires and wheels? What back spacing and how much did you shorten the 8.8?
I am debating between the aje rear setup or the martz

Any pics of your rear suspension? Think a 315 / 35 /18 would clear the lower control arm?

I relocated the lower control arm to inside the frame rail. We added frame connectors and boxed in the end where the lower control arm mounts. We had to do this because of how we shortened the 8.8. If I remember right before we moved the arms, they were pretty close to the 295. It would be really close. I'll try to get some pics up later. Sorry to hijack the thread!

The brackets were reinforced a bit more after these pics were taken. When we shortened the rear end, we pulled the tubes out, cut 4" off, and pressed them back in. So in short, the brackets are 4" closer to the chunk.
The wheels are US MAGS Ramblers. 18x9.5
Rusted rotors and wheels are the good ol' mocks.

How did you get the tubes out?
Drilled the spot welds out. Then used a very large hydraulic press.

Lower arms are 22 1/8 eye to eye. I made my own using stainless stock.
qa1 coilovers are used. I don't remember the part number, but it was one of the shortest ones. Unless you use something like the Maier racing shock setup in the trunk, it'll be one of the longest for the height I wanted.

I got them from AJE. I guess I have the "old suspension kit " and the tire fits to forward in the fender so we need to cut it and adjust it to move the wheel center to fit that size tire and rim

Had to cut almost an inch off the side closest to the firewall and reweld it back up. Both mine sat forward to much aje also makes a “fix” for that. They have adjustable arms but there like $400 something

Built a box frame for the fuel tank to mount too to stiffen up the rear some more. Got seat pans in and the rest of the floor roll cage built an out rigger from the sub frame to the roll cage for support and 14” Shelby brakes on all four corners. Yes that is way to much brake for the rear but it looks way better and the will use a portioning valve to make them work
