Sup guys, i have a project id like to share that ive started, its a 72' C10 longbed that ive had in my family for 19 years, it was given to me for my first ride, ended up letting it sit after highschool and got a new truck to drive back and forth to work. I finally started coming across the money to get the build started so ill keeo you guys updated on everything that is going on with the truck. My main goals for this truck is have a fun autocross/road coarse truck that i can take to events and cruise on the weekends.

What ive done so far,

Suspension, I went with cpp for the suspension, I really liked their stuff so i picked up upper and lower control arms, Drop spindles, drop springs, sway bars (still waiting on the rear) tie rods, and some other small stuff, everything bolted on easily, but i am still waiting on my shocks as well, i ordered HQ adjustable shocks from ride tech. As for the rear, as of now im just doing the rear sway bar, shocks and i am keeping the leafs on, yes i know leafs are not ideal but i thought id like to try it before i go throw money down on trailing arms. Ill also be putting a fuel cell in the rear rails of the truck and getting the one out of the cab, battery will also be placed in the bed/ under the bed to help get some more weight to the rear on the truck,

Brakes, I bought Wilwoods D52 kit for the front and bought their brake like kit, everything bolted up just like everyone said, its the direct stock caliper replacement so nothing can really mount wrong. went with regular solid surface rotors as well, as i heard unless you spend real big $$ on slotted, they will crack when they get hot which i dont want to encounter so i decided to save some money and avoid the headach. For the rear, i am ordering the d154 rear kit tomarrow, it bolts right on the back where the drums would go and looks like a good kit, still contemplating if the slotted or solid is they way to go on those. once again i dont want cracked rotors. but i understand keeping them cool is also key to good brakes. and i am changing the m/c for wilwoods with a new proportioning valve, still havnt decided about going manual or keeping the booster. so far it stops very well but i am sure with the rear kit on it will be much better. I run wilwoods high heat brake fluid.

Wheels/Tires, i went back and forth and back and forth and couldnt see myself throwing down the cash on forgelines at the moment. so i went with rocket booster wheels, i liked the look and i heard that for the price they are a really good wheel, i went with a 18x9 on all 4 corners, with a 5.25 bs. Tires, Bridgestone Potenza RE-11, kept hearing great things about the tire and wanted to try it out, they are a 200 treadwear tire, almost went with a cheaper nitto invo but i know the softer tire will benefit me in every way. went with 275/40-18 on all 4.

Steering, i went simple, i really didnt want a rack and pinion, even though there are companies that sell kits for this truck, i went with cpp's quick ratio steering box, Firm, no slop, wayyyy better than stock, couldnt believe it, very impressed with the product. and i bought their billet tie rod adjuster sleeves and new tie rod ends. I went to a regular alignment shop and gave them the specs i wanted and got a lifetime alignment on the truck so after i go beat on it all weekend and want to make changes, i can get it done for free, i can tell they werent happy about that. Haha

Drive train- has a 350 with a cam and other small things, also a built th350 with a converter, hoping to swap that out soon(hoping by the end of the year)

Ill keep you guys posted up with pics and info on the build as i go, hoping to have her at goodguys this year.

Nice project. Not sure where you live but in near San Diego, CA, I have a set of truck arms and front brackets you can have, if you come pick them up. I was going to convert my old '65 that someone had swapped to leaf spring (no idea why) but sold the truck before I got to that point.

124003124469Got my shocks mounted and went and put them to work this weekend. Love them, i was told after beating on the truck to re torque the upper control arm shafts. they were right, they were super loose, i couldnt find any torque specs so i went off the stock specs, 70ft lbs, does that seem high to anyone?

Finally got my trutrac. Gearing is the next obstacle, I'll be running a 400hp sbc with a 700r4 on a 18" wheel with a 40 series tire of anyone has recommendations. I decided to pull the old 350/th350 this weekend and to start degreasing and undercoating the frame and under the body. The rear end is going off to get the ring and pinion installed soon. I will more than likely be running the stock axles seeing that I won't be making any crazy hp. I also got my shock brackets for the front from cpp. 124468

A lot will depend on your overall tire diameter. If you're going to be in the 26.5"-28" diameter, 3.73's are about perfect. It will have you in the 2150-2350 rpm range at 70mph. Taller tire, 4.10's, smaller tire 3.42's. Having had a 700R4 in my first '68 C10, which had 4.10's and 28" tall tire, with first gear ratio of the 700R4, I could smoke the tires at will in first. These have a deep first gear so you have to be careful not to go too deep with your rear end gears as 1st becomes completely useless.

Alright guys sorry ive been away for awhile, i have got alot of stuff done on the truck.

I contacted Ron Sutton to build be a brake package that can be used on a road course as well as be able to compete in autocross and still be used on the street He created a good set up that i like that utilizes the stock front rotors and can use most of my parts i ordered for the rear . I ended up getting rid of my D154 calipers that had the two smaller pistons because of their lack of clamping force. So i ended up Getting
-Wilwood D154r calipers for the rear (Has one 2" piston opposed to the two smaller pistons)
-Wilwood BP20 Pads (for Road course)
- Wilwood 7/8 tandem M/c
-Wilwood Pushrod kit

*He recommended The "E" pad for autocross, I didn't purchase this yet, before i go to good guys i will get a set.

Ron is a very Knowledgeable source when it comes to anything on from purpose built track cars to street cars. I do not hesitate to take any of my question to him.

I finally had my 12 bolt built. I took it to a local shop that did an awesome job on everything, i ended up having the trutrac installed, gears, 1350 yoke, bearings and new axles with arp studs with a moser girdled cover.

I ended up getting rid of all of my cpp stuff, i wasnt too happy with it. So i ended up getting all hotchkis components to make a complete TVS kit. Upper and lower control arms, springs, panhard bar, sway bars, shock mounts, center link and tie rod adjuster. I didnt get their shocks because i already purchased Ridetech HQ's which i will get Ron's "secret sauce" valving once i get the engine and transmission in.

Next on the list to get finished is:
-Front modular drop spindles to use with the hotchkis control arms (they use 73-87 ball joints) Along with the Hotchkis 2in springs along with new pitman arm and tie rod ends (hotchkis tie rod adjusters uses 67-72 inner tie rods and 73-87 outers i believe)
-Cooler for the power steering with new lines
-Fuel cell
-Get rear cross member made for the shocks, along with fixing the front of the frame where we made room for a set of old headers that didn't fit properly and get the rear spring mounts plated.
-Get the brake line plumbed
-Move the battery to the rear
-Have a Full cage built or at least a roll bar with a cross bar for the harness's.

Thanks guys!131189131190131191131192

Here are my brake calc sheets from Ron, the set up i had before was unsafe.
The new set up will work well for Road course, Auto x and street driving.

I picked up a 2008 5.2 with 70,000 miles on it, it already has 243 casting heads and a good intake, its going to get rebuild along with getting the heads ported and a custom grind cam when the suspension and brakes are finished

Chevy's came standard with coils, GMC's came standard with leafs. Both could be ordered with the opposite style.
