Hello again everyone, My 72 has factory disc brakes up front and of course drums in the rear. My question is this. We are looking to build a street car that handles like a new vette. As for the braking, My thoughts were just to go with a Baer/Wilwood setup, any prefrences on brand, or any other ideas. Don't want to spend for than $1700 max for brakes, would prefer less. As for rim size 18x8 in the front and 20x10's in the rear so big will be better looking. I would like to smoothe the firewall and that includes, moving the booster and all brake stuff on to the frame out of site. Any thoughts or ideas, expirences, or known kits for this. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Chris

Welcome aboard this site. You will find more A-body protouring info on this site than Team Chevelle's. Most their members are still stuck in the 60's and 70's.
Why not try some 18x9.5's in front with a pair of 275/35/18 tires? Run some 295/40/20's in the rear on those 20x10's and you're set. Those size wheels will need 5.5" backspacing, front & rear.
JMO but not sure you can get the brakes you want for $1700,though.

a wilwood kit from precision brakes will run you around $900-1000 for the front and $800 or so for the rear!

Hey guys thanks for all your info. Checkout my thread on suspension, I need a little more closure on studd before I make an order. ZR1 I didn't know you could put that big of a tire up front, the bigger the better. Any remondations on tires. How bout BFG KDW's, Tavis, that sounds good, with the wilwood underdash kit, but I checked it out and can't find a designated kit. What all did you get, where did everything go, and how hard was the install on a scale of 1-10 Thanks Again guys

There is no designated kit...It is a universal type deal that you will have to fab brackets for. I will try to post pics shortly....

Keep your eye on the project updates section there will be some pics up around the first of the week!

I'm running 17x9's with 275/40/17's on the front of my 69 Elky.
BFG's are excellent tires. My personal preference are Michelin Pilot Sports.

That is for the 12.19in rotor 4 piston dynalite calipers.....very good brakes for all around street driving

But your right the 13in stuff is much higher

Ok I am new n would like to find out about putting aftermarket brakes on my 65 cutlass.
I like the idea of corvette calipers or maybe some aftermarket calipers with drilled n slotted rotors of stock size. Just a question, hate to hijack... 20x10 in rims n no tube job, is that possible?

The OP ended up getting a Wilwood kit from us for his car.

We MIGHT have a kit for your Cutlass but we will need to do some measurments on your axle end and offset to be sure.

If you interested in persuing this you can call me at the number in my sig.

Why not C6 Z06 breaks, get the spindles from ATS and the rear fit kit from Tobin at KORE 3. I have this setup on my 72 GTO and i love it, for the price it is the best thing out there. You cant beat GM's RD :1st:
