I planning on swapping rearends on my 67 camaro and wish to
have a disc brakes. I was told the cheapest way and still be safe
was to use a 2001 ford explorer, its suppose to have posi- traction
and a little narrower. My question is what do yall think of this idea
or any others, Im on a budget so im trying to get the most for the money.
THANKS for your help, and ideas.

This is a great swap for the money!! Many people that call here have the same swap you intend on going with. I have not heard anything negative about going this route. Thumbs up from our view.

I have heard about issues using the explorer brakes without balancing the rest of the brake system.

The Explorer brakes....... basically suck.

Then you have to change the spring purches, change your driveshaft yolk interface with the pinion flange (its not a yolk, its a flange) and shock mount locations are not really acceptable either.

Good if you wanna throw money at it.......

the third gen camaro rearends work well under a first gen camaro. I am running a 10 bolt rearend 3:23 posi w/ the stock disc brakes. The rearend was given to me and was brand new. Still had the factory stickers. The third gen rearend is 1" wider than stock. You will have to cut the brackets off and replace with Multi or mono perches.

9 inch from 67-69 mustang, also torino has similar rear. 75 up nova had 8.5 posi if you can find one that is about 1 inch wider and fits on spring perches, may need to shim for yoke angle.

One thing about the thirdgen rear end is they only use like a 7.5inch differential in the 10 bolt (or something close to that) and are much weaker then the 8.5" 10 bolts in 2nd gens.
