This is going to be more of a video thread than pic based.

I've seen a few people do this & thought what a great idea! A truck that drives like a car & also here in Cali gets around SMOG laws with it being registered as a 69.

This first film is the trucks first incarnation. I swapped everything from the Vic onto the truck frame but as the build neared the end I liked it less & less.

https://youtu.be/S-t2jIS9bzg

So I started again.
This is the first in the series.

Should have another update pretty soon!

Today's progress.
The front of the cab is in it's right place.
I have to cut out some of the rear cab crossmember to get it down about an inch & a half.

Started Trimming up the F250 inner fenders so I can attach them to the CV inner fenders so all the motor accessories stay in an OEM location:

& also started joining the back of the cab to the CV floor with some old CV flooring that I cut out earlier:

Looks cool that was my original plan till I found a short bed frame. I've seen one done with a 61 to 66 ford. Still might try it with a 61 unibody.Check out http://www.naake.com/store/mercury-marauder

they have a bunch of cool crown vic suspension upgrades.

Looking great!!
Are you going to run the crown vic dash? Don't pitch the plastic vents that run the heat & AC to the back seat. You need to leave them in place to run the stock crown vic carpet, which when you buy new has enough extra to cover those 1 inch fillers at the kick panel.
We ended up bolting the bed to the cab with some 1 inch square tubing, because the frame is a little lacking in the middle.
You are gonna love it. Between, myself, my buddy and his wife, we put 7,000 miles on his 66 last summer!!!So much fun!!

Your front tire looks perfectly placed in the front wheelwell.
Does the core support fit behind the grill? We moved the core support towards the engine like 2 inches. Even with that the AC condenser is less than an inch from the grill.

Thanks for the kind words!
Yeah I'm gonna run the Vic dash & after you've said that I'll leave the center air distributor in place. I have saggy carpet.

I've taken a lot off the bottom of the truck rad support in mock up but right now all the Vic rad, A/c etc is all in the original location.
I think it will all fit.

A new film should be going up on YouTube this weekend which shows the rad support area.

Zanie.

A quick question about bolting the bed to the cab.
Did you do that after driving it & feeling flex or was it an experienced opinion after looking at it?

I've thought the same thing looking at how it ramps up & over the back axle.

So how does it handle?

nathankershaw

You know...it basically drives exactly like a Crown Vic.
Power everything, steering, ABS, brakes etc.
Super nice to drive...one finger on the steering wheel.

I've been a bit slow with updating pics on this thread, focusing more on YouTube videos instead...so I'm gonna try & stay more on top of it!

Thank you for all the kind words!

The truck is now my daily, running & driving great!

It drives exactly like a Vic.

It's all standard P71 shocks & springs.

I bolted the bed to the cab which helped rigidity IMMENSELY!

Drives great. 70 on the freeway with one finger on the wheel.

Bloody loud exhaust though! lol.

Just saw you started another one, are you selling of the good stuff you dont need or selling the pile to the scrap yard?

nathankershaw
08-01-2016, 08:05 AM
Vic stuff doesn't really have any value so 99% of that is going to scrap.

Truck parts I'll put on Craigslist & see what happens.

Restomod
08-01-2016, 05:53 PM
Gotcha, what are the scrap prices out in Cali? They are pretty low here, like .03 per 100 lbs ...hardly worth hauling the stuff there.

I don't know the exact price but if it's not cut down into convenient pieces for them, a lot of the time they'll look & then drive off & leave it!

Most of the stuffs gone off the Vic now...the truck I but will be next :)

Hey, Nathan,

On YouTube you asked what I was doing to my S10...

Well, I'm putting this:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2016/07/IMG_20160605_181112249_zps3yqkp8cz-1.jpg (http://s216.photobucket.com/user/97acrcoupe/media/1986%20S-10/IMG_20160605_181112249_zps3yqkp8cz.jpg.html)

Into this:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2016/09/IMG_20160911_115156812_zpsxwlbscyf-1.jpg (http://s216.photobucket.com/user/97acrcoupe/media/1986%20S-10/IMG_20160911_115156812_zpsxwlbscyf.jpg.html)

Plan is to convert to console shift (which only Typhoons/Syclones/Sonoma GT's were available with, AFAIK) and Hand-type Parking brake.
Probably going to build a full interior for it with Push-Start and all the amenities. It'll be fun some day.

I'm working in a little less than half a 2 car garage and in my driveway. lol

BTW, when you get F71 done, what are your plans for the first truck?

Jay

They will both be for sale eventually.

I have a few things to sort out on the first truck from things I've learnt on the second.

S10 with an LS based motor seems like a match made in heaven to me!

Well done for getting it done in limited space...i know your plight :)

It will be my first engine swap project, and it's been done a ton of times so I don't need to figure too much out on my own.
I do car stereo/alarm/accessories for a living so I'm comfortable with the wiring aspect of it (making my own harness, adapting the Silverado BCM, and adding a Push button start kit. I really miss having proximity key after owning a 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
I've done mechanical work (swapped a couple air-cooled VW engines, several Dodge Neon/Ford Escort timing belts, brakes/etc.) since I was 17.

I'm hoping to pull the whole deal off (running, driving and paint) for under $10k (not counting the Stereo system, lol) I really only get to work on it on the weekends, and have to put it away to keep the neighbors appeased.

I know you are out of California but there are some guys here in Texas that have done this to a few older Ford trucks. Check them out at farm truck racing tx.
