what is the most cost-effective way to get some custom headers fabbed up for a project? i plan eventually to do something that I'm pretty much positive noone will ever make headers for, so I need a solution eventually. i'm pretty sure even the ports on the heads are nonstandard, so they're going to have to be a ground-up thing.

How much $$$ are you wanting to spend? Getting even a basic set of custom stainless headers will run $2k. If they are going to need custom milled flanges, well $$$$$
Your best bet may be to find a small shop who can build them for a reasonable price.
If you can get flanges, and I would be amazed if you can't, it will make things much easier.

Got a welder? Make 'em yourself. Parts will cost from $400 to $800 depending on material.

see that's the thing, i have no idea what my budget will be when i get around to the motor on my project, so i'm looking more for ballparks than exact numbers. this won't happen for a while.
hmmm....2k vs 500...looks like i'm gonna need to buy a welder and start learning.
as far as flanges...i found out i need "hooker offset pattern headers with large tubes". so yeah, i may be able to get a hold on some flanges after all.
